While you are on the 67-72 forum, search "swb conversion". You will find a few good threads in there for properly shortening the ch***is. No need to back half the truck unless you are pro-streeting it. If you are going to lay it out, there are a few on there that have layed them out with the stock trailing arms and either a Porterbuilt dropmember or a homemade sectioned crossmember. The other alternative is a 1 1/2" Z in the frame at the firewall. Either of the two methods will lay pinchweld on the 60-87 C-10's... if you were closer, I could point you to a complete 64 SWB sitting in a field with a matching LWB parts truck...
looks like your dads is a shortbed? if so there are your measurements... most pics I have seen look like 12-16 inches in front of the wheel, and 6-12 inches behind... keep in mind that the short fleet has a wheelwell opening that is about 3 inches shorter than a long fleet. IMO the shortened long bed box looks better laying rocker, becuase you can see more of the wheel when it is down... the kid 54's truck: you should be able to find some build pics by searching through the picture thread that you post on..
