I'm posting the photo here so HAMBers can keep an eye out. This is actually a 1940 Sedan Delivery with a 1939 De Luxe front clip - there can't be too many of those around. The 1939 has indented side panels - not the rounded panels of the 1940.

Let's hope it gets recovered undamaged - a sweet ride it is.

That is truly sad. You can tell how he feels about it from this quote...
"I just hope it's not too far messed-up when we do find it," Burden said.
Sounds like the parent of a missing child...never give up hope.
I hope carma gets the perps x10 after he gets his stuff back.

Its the slow degredation of society. As time has p***ed the laws have allowed for more and more to be okay. Used to get in trouble for shoplifting, now they get nothing. I saw a show on LA, and they said due to overcrowded jails that people who ***aulted and stabbed others would be released within hours of being arrested. Its all a bunch of BS. I really hope he gets his car back. I hope the ******* that took it gets what is coming to him also.

I have an EYE-OUT here in the western metroplex!!! I was pinstriping at a couple of shops in Garland last month around the location of this theft and was amazed at the number of small body shops HIDDEN on the backlots. I've always had a p***ion for deliveries and panels and can feel the attachment this owner has for his stolen dream. "Let's Look High and Low Men".

I got a solution to the over crowding..but its not PC..but it will definetly work.
    we do have rights..(some, still)
we all just have to get sick and tired enough of this ****, to do something about it..
i guess if they are not going to throw them in jail for doing **** like this..than maybe they will leave me alone, for what i might do.

Did you guys see this comment beneath the story?

"WE all wish the Garland police put this amount of effort when a person is missing

For something so valuable to the owner, he sure did not show care for it - the thieves already knew very well about it and in these hard times Mr.Burden presneted them with a gift. It would have been safer in his garage?? You can start by placing a hefty reward for its safe return and get a box of kleenex!!"

I guess it's safe to say this *** doesn't get it. Man, I feel for the old dude. I'm sure there are plenty of us who are more attached to our vehicles AND tools than a lot of our relatives and people in general. Maybe it's just me though.

I hope so too, but he probably won't be caught, police don't spend a lot of time on stolen cars, and if they do get him he'll get off easy. That car has probably crossed the border in an enclosed trailer, uninspected thanks to NAFTA.
You can't expect people to obey laws in a country where laws aren't enforced. There are a lot of cars being stolen down there, and while we don't know who did it, due to it's location, it's not unreasonable to ***ume who it was. I guess the first thing a person learns when they enter the country illegally and no one cares, is that maybe we don't care about our other laws either.

I really hate to see these things ! No reason for it but I bet it's someone that knows the owner !
When they catch the car thief they need to chop the fu**ers hands off so they can't take someones else's pride and joy !

That's why I spend a few extra bucks and get a LOJACK! It's cheap insurance. I have it on my 1970 Chevelle and my 1988 Honda Accord 2dr hatchback.

I went back and read this again,
"Burden said the thieves knew exactly which of the 200 or so garages to hit and went to work" sound like a good place for the cops to start, maybe they should run some background checks on the renters in this place, surely someone knows who these f$%kers are or have seen them before milling about the place, I didn't see where it said the video showed them leaving the place, maybe just moved it to another garage. Did I miss that or what?

A common thread for thefts on here seems to be "a white Dodge pickup and trailer"....

tough deal for sure.........I cant recall the last time I ever saw ride at a meet like that, are they that rare........old timer had a great looking one..

I hope they catch him soon. I too have been keeping up with the event as I live in the area also........

  18. I hope everyone is watching CL in their areas especially around there. this could show up as parts or with a quick repaint listed as "barn find, no ***le" or something like that. must be a lunatic, who in their right is going to "mess with Texas" or a Texan...

I hope this thread can stay near the top so it can stay fresh in peoples minds..
Would be nice if there was a permanent thread listing "be on the look out for..."
lots of rodders and racers get the things ripped off every year and with the far reaching of the site it would be a great ***et.

It could be an organized ring that car may be in a container overseas somewhere.
I sure hope he gets it all back!

I'd be keeping an ear out for word of someone in the area who "made great progress" on a 39/40 after "getting a great deal" on a batch of nice parts. Yu can almost bet that there a few shops around that would do great body work quickly by stealing a vehicle to strip the parts off and transfer them to a customer car too.

It might serve well if someone in Texas close to but outside the DFW area posts a parts wanted add on the Local craigslist and sees if the theives bite. Wanted, 39/40 front clip and two door doors in good shape, have cash, send photos with reply.

Which reminds me, I was going to get the shotgun out and give it a good cleaning today.

In the service we had saying,

" someone attacks one of us, they attack all of us"

    Still true today

Wow, this is BEYOND sad. I hope the *** wipes that stole this will somehow pay 1,000,000 fold for this, & the sooner the better:mad:

I wish this man luck, hopefully there is a happy ending
