Years ago,I parted out several 49-51 Mercs, and saved some of the front spindles..Thinking about sending a pair to Fatmans to have cut down for 4 1/2" bolt pattern discs..The spindles aren't where I am now,but after looking at them for just a second this afternoon,I've got a question..Since they're all 49-51 Merc, are they all the same? I did notice different numbers cast/forged into them, but thought that might just be date codes,or batch codes..They look identical, and I'm ***uming that left or right doesn't matter, right?Sorry for the stupidity, but I haven't looked at these in years, and only had time to dig them out of storage today, then left before i could really take a good look at them..thanks
A guy at fatmans sez there's a left and right side spindle...I'm looking at 4 of them,I can't tell any difference,....anybody?
fatman guy is thinking about the spindle "support or upright" which is the part that is usually modified. The term "dropped spindle" actually means dropped spindle support but no one talks that way in casual conversation. The spindle support does have a left and right. Like eci says, the spindle alone is the same.
Thanks....couldn't figure out what I was missing..the 4 I've got are 2 pair off of 2 cars, and except that one of them is clearly thinner material, they all look the same..fatman guy knows I have the dropped uprights already...my lack of communication skills,probably...
