And how much they cost ?My son is only five and already on the right track.
Speedway sells a bare metal kit. My son put a bizillion miles on his (had to replace the front wheel bearings!). He got it from my Dad when he turned 2, and had grown out of it by the time he was 6-ish (and he's small for his age). Now my son (8yo) is wanting something internal-combustion-powered!
Im looking to build a pedal car for my 2 year old boy. I found this site Might help. www.pedalcar.com
One of happiest days on my life was when my 20 year old son told me "Dad, let's build us a hot rod!" That's all I needed. When it happens at 2 or 3 it's even better. The younger they start the better it gets.
i have 2 kids one is 5 and the other is 5 months. The 5 year old lives and breaths cars he says hes the mercury man and the 5 month old will fall asleep with the sound of cars reving up(i watch you tube and put him to sleep at the same time) thanks to my dad for exposing me to cars early now i can do the same with my kids.
My son Jack has been obsessed with old cars and motorcycles since he was two and a half.He loves car shows, machine and welding shops and pretty much anywhere we go that is old car related. Now he's almost eight and already decided on a shoe box Ford for our first project together and his first car.I think he'll have to be happy with a go cart first though.Really couldn't have asked for a better kid.
I have built this pedalcar for my 4-year son this spring, it`s not ready yet but we took it for a test drive this week. We still have to mount lights and an electric horn because he wants it to work offcourse... because the steeringwheel is a 10" Grant. http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o213/Backyard_album/CIMG5733.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o213/Backyard_album/CIMG5735.jpg The boy is a gearhead as is his father, his wish has come thru. Now he has his own Imperial.
I'm 71 so this happened a few years ago. I was visiting Grandpa and walked down the street and saw a pedal car (first one) and I walked in the yard and started DRIVING. Well I got carried away and drove down the cellar steps and crashed. The people didn't know who I was, if I was dead, where did I come from, nothing. But it was a small home town, and I was soon missed at grandpa's and all worked out well. That was 67 yrs ago and I'm still into cars. Build what they want, and you will have them out of trouble for life. I welded a small hook hitch on my boys trike and he wore the bike and wagon out, put a zillion miles on that thing. Ice man
All THREE of my young sons are gear-heads. I am so conflicted. I love when the boys help me in the garage.... but I can't help but feel sorry for my poor wife. It is now my job to get the grease out from under their fingernails.
My son was at the drag strip at 4 months old (would have gone sooner but they don't drag race in the snow). He was in the shop with me as soon as he could walk and I had to put up with his mother complaining about the grease in his clothes. He rebuilt a real '69 Z-28 I gave him for his 16th birthday and is now rebuilding it again with my grandson. It's comforting to see the mechanical gene being carried on. I'm the product of a grandfather who allowed me to be in his shop with him asking a million questions, getting in the way and patiently showing me the basics of mechanical things and how to use tools. My 12 year old daughter been hanging out at the shop with me this summer (too old for daycare now) and started getting interested in what I do. So far learned how to use the beadroller and asking a bunch of questains about welding. Also sanded and painted an old 50's bike we got for her. For the first time she asked to go to cruise night with me and wasn't board in 3 min.! Coming back (we took the 39) she said she can't wait for the next cruise but can we take "her" car (the Model A)! Think I created a monster!
Yes he is on the right track, but at 5 maybe think about a go-kart or a vintage bicycle. I think peddle cars are gonna be to lil' for him. Either way, keep him interested!
