Anyboby here or still alive remember Big Boy on Dixie,Jerrys on dixie, Jerrys on New cut or Big Boy on 3rd street in Louisville,Ky ??????? Lets hear from you.
Hey watch it about this OLD folks stuff!!! Cruising up & down Dixie was the thing to do! Stop at Frish's and get a Big Boy platter, Maybe slide on down to A&W for a root beer float! Pick up your best chick and go to the Valley Drive-in and hope you could find a spot on the back row! I grew up in Breckinridge Co. Louisville was the only place to go!
I grew up in Oldham Co, remember the Frisch's in St. matthews & the Jerry's in Middletown, and on Bardstown road, remember cruising 4th St. the best, checking out the big gl*** window at WAKY radio, the beer bottles lining the center of 4th, and all the pretty ladies at Kingfish, them were the good ole days................................
Spent manya nite at Big Boy, as a teenager, so many moons ago. Dixie dieway was where it was!!!! Lived on Maryman Road at Waverly Park. Such memories
well well I like to see more guys I can hear these stories from my uncle Terry Powell worked for Redds speed shop downtown, and ran their camaro and held IHRA world records in 1977, my father Kerrick Jenkins, Uncle Mike Jenkins were one of the street vendors for speed parts such as 4 speeds, and such, wow its just amazing to think of some of the good times that went on and the beautiful cars that cruised back then, I dont know what went in place of the Big Boy on dixie after big boy actually closed but in my life time I know of a mr gattis, then that was torn down, a HOOTERS nows resides where the Big Boy was.
Those were the days !!!! Anyone remember things like the 58 chevy "Lil Black Sambo",Wayne Sydel riding a horse in to the Big Boy on Dixie and backing it into a parking space? How about the "Streaking" in the lot late at night or the late night racing on Lower river road? I turned more laps around those Berger joints than doing the Daytona 500. I thinks gas was .35 cents a gallon and I made .35 cents an hour working after school (Butler High School) at a Drug store. I,m now 65 years old and still smile every time I think of those days. Lets hear some stories from those places in Louisville or better yet pictures.
I spent most of my time at Frisches Big Boy at 3rd and Southland Blvd or Jerry's on New Cut. My most embarressing moment was after chasing another car at high speed and hard cornering I was pulling into Jerry's and all the bolts fell out of my A frame. I had just had the front end completely redone and...well those things happen. That was with my 56 Olds 98. I had a 54 Ford with a full race 428 in it that I drove most of the time, built by Thornberry. Yeh, I know, but he was cheap. JB
We sure had some great times !!! BUT had some very bad times also. Check out my post of 1-11-08.Very sad night.
My Dad lived in louisville in the late 60s and even thou he has always been into cars, he was more into the bar seen than the car seen at that time He was in his teens and lived with my aunt and uncle so he could work there. I have heard sevral stories from my aunt about how many times she had to patch him up after he would come home from a bar room brawl etc. He never had any trouble finding friends but never had any trouble finding trouble itself either
