Well here's the deal,my chevy is at a friends shop getting all the plumbing done, exhaust and wiring so it looks like that by monday she's gonna be ALIVE!!! So i've been doing a lot of research on air systems and i got my eyes on a couple but before i buy i would like to know what some of you use!! KUSTOMBUILDER sells a really affordable kit that i was interested in, but after reacquiring my old Galaxie that has pretty much the same set up , 1 comp., 1 small tank, im not so sure. My Galaxie's system blows!! The compressor is always running and FOREVER!! It's kinda of embarassing cruising the streets with that thing rattling in the trunk!! I hate it!! What im looking for is a 2 compressor system with a couple tanks and something very efficient. Here's a shot of my trunk, im sure you guys have great suggestions. Pics would be awesome, and maybe a link to a website and how much is a kit like yours. I know im asking for a lot but im tired of making expensive mistakes . Thanx in advance!! Ian
I am also looking at getting two compressors - I have a 5 gallon tank installed with 8 valves. I was just thinking this morning that I will probably need an additional 5 gallon tank after playing with the set up - it uses a lot of air. If you find a good source for tanks and compressors maybe we can bulk buy and save more!!!! You can see more images as I finish the build/install here - http://thewebczar.com/build/airride/index.php
Cool!! With all the 49 54 chevy guys on here im sure there's gonna be some great stuff!! If we can, maybe bulk would be good!! Ian
Since I've run on board air, I'll never look back. Fast and silent. I only have one 3 gallon tank and I always have air. On a big heavy 59 chevy. I am running a sanden 508 BTW.
What do you use to oil that sanden? The rotary style is what I have, too. I'm hoping a big air line oiler will be enough on the inlet side of the compressor.
This is what Im running. Will fill a 5 gallon tank quickly. They are rated at 200 psi but you can run a lower rated pressure switch if you want. This setup will also easily handle (2) five gallon tanks if you want that much air. For an extra 20 bucks you can get them in chrome. http://www.suicidedoors.com/air-management/compressors/viair-480-dual-pack-silver
like these guys mentioned, if you can run an EDC,,, DO IT. SO much better than electric compressors. i bought my kit from kustombuilder years ago as well,,,but have since updated it quite a bit. (got rid of the electric compressor, new bags, mounts, etc.) i'm a huge fan of slam specialties bags now. any questions go ahead and PM me.
I use a cheapie oiler on a real slow drip at idle, and a quality coelescing Wilkerson filter after. Has ran almost about 4 years with no problems.
