They both use the same inner and outer wheel bearings, what am I overlooking? The caliper mounting bracket shouldn't be a problem. Remove the 58 hub, install the Explorer hub/rotor, bolt on a caliper bracket and caliper. Done. Now, it's up to you to steal my thunder.
Cause Ford Explorer parts aren't traditional. Someone would have said it eventually.....(and I'm just joking around). And I'll second bearing race distance.
Yeah, I figured it was only a matter of time before someone brought that up, but upgrading brakes is traditional.
The F100 bearings are further apart. You need a spacer behind the rear bearing, about 3/8" so make the outside of it the same diameter as the Explorer seal, and you can use that too. As I recall, a Ford 9" axle bearing retainer sleeve is the right thickness, and ID, and the OD is close, if not the same size.
look at a exploded view of a 9" and it looks like a 3/8" spacer. keep us poted on your tech sounds cool.
I used a bolt on bracket from a 70s Ford, and fabricated a mount for that to the F100 spindle out of 3/8" plate and a hardware store coupler nut.
you cant do that.... it will flip over! No but I do think you are on to something here- if you can get this to work well then we may have a new mod here!
