This past weekend the Transcontinental Motor Convoy p***ed through Wooster Ohio and I got a chance to snap a few photos of the vehicles. Here are a few of the pics. A little history: The original convoy in 1919 followed the same basic route to check the condition of the roads for moving military equipment. There were only a few vehicles from the WWI era, but a nice mixture of WWII era vehicles. Maybe some of you guys can catch a glimpse of this convoy as it heads toward the west coast. Here's the website and their schedule and where they will be. http://www.mvpa.org/ Enjoy.
Wow how I love those old trucks from the teens. Solid tires and all. That '41 has some taillights that would fantastic on a Hot Rod.
Are the granades on the WLA45 for clearing the way? Shifting gears ,pull the pin and throw sounds wild. Thaks for sharing
check out the leather universal cover in the 4th picture, might have to do that on my '39 chevy pickup when its done.....Jim
I saw them last weekend in Maryland. They had traffic all backed up. They were on the other side of the interstate. I couldn't figure out what was going on. The touring car must have been setting the pace. It wasn't on a trailer but was putting along.
Wow, I didn't know anyone commemorated this event! The original convoy in 1919 was led by Lt. Col. Dwight Eisenhower. Even before he saw the German Autobahns, he saw the need for better roads in the US. He reported, "In Illinois [the convoy] started on dirt roads, and practically no more pavement was encountered until reaching California.
