Its suppose to be somthing that was built to compete with the 58 El Camino. It has a truck cab with what looks alot like a 58 Desoto quarters on the truck bed. I think its pretty neat. I am trying to find some info on it.
That is a 57 Styleside Dodge Those are cool and pretty hard to come by. I used to have a 57 step side and was considering building one of those you are right they use a Desoto Quarters on a step side bed. Nice find
It is a 57 sweptside the sweptside's fenders and rear bumper were borrowed from 57 dodge two door suburban station wagon Desoto also had a sweptside bed like that in 56, they used 56 plymouth rear fenders
Im getting it now. They had the stepside and that one was called the sweptside.. The other ones you posted seem to have a big back window. This has a small back window. I wonder what is up with that.
looks more like 57 dodge 1/4's if not, why would Dodge use DeSoto 1/4's? Does you own it or are you teasing us? If, it's yours, borrow Tucks hemi for it. He's up in Canada, he'll never know.
Ha, I dont think that Hemi is coming out of the Roadster.. This truck would be kool with at Hemi in it. My dad is looking at this truck. He wants it for a shop truck. This front end does not quite match up though to the 57.
got a line on a 331 hemi, heads are off, surface? rust in the cylinders, says the motor has been in the garage for a bunch of years. I should be looking at it next week. Interested?
Hey OG, I met you up at Bobs. I read your profile. I got to talk with you bit. Im Nate, I didnt know it was you until I read your profile. I rember your car you told me about. and I seen your Lincoln there at Bobs Party. Good to talk to ya man..
Here's me with my "Nitpick of The Day" post. The El Camino came out in 59, the Ford Ranchero came out in '57. Hence, there was no '58 El Camino. Ok nitpick over.
I think those were cobbled together real quick as an answer to GM's Cameo and Suburban Carrier (the fibregl*** box, not the panel style). I looked one over once that came from the facory with a V-8 auto, not sure what, maybe a 313. These things are very rare. The 1/4's were indeed used off a two door wagon, made to fit. Lots of chrome and flash. Supposedly more luxurious than the Cameo, sort of an upper cl***pickup for ranchers that had a few $$$.
I knew that was you and now you know this is me. Definitely good talking to ya. Meeting you,Tuck and Evel at Bob Sr's party was "DAMN GOOD" and I stayed up past midnite talking hot rods.
These Dodge's were neat/odd. That home built '58 'El Camino' is looking good. Is that one of your's Chop?
Yeah Slammed- its my shop truck. I kindalike the weird Dodge trucks shown....Think I would have to afix the front clip from the same Dodge wagon though!
Chop..., are those the wheels you have for sale...? How much for the wheels and the beater they're attached too... ??? Mark
Hot wheels made a truck with your Dodge bed side treatment and a Chevy (I think) cab over body. A buddy of mine is going to try to copy it for real. The model is really slick looking and a full size one would be definitely different than the average bear. pigpen Still flatheadin'.
Nate....I've seen several of those through the years but I always thought they we were known at the "Sweptwing" dodge. Maybe that term was reserved to the p***enger cars....
there is a good book bout dodge pu got a lot of info bout your 58 http://www.allbookstores.com/book/0879384913 the sweptside D100 was introduced as a midyear 1957 model, they had only one full year of production in 1958. it was dropped in january 1959.
Seriously why wouldnt the FRONT CLIP of that year car be Killer on that Sweptside Dodge?[I know Im repeatin myself again.....SENILITY is a beeeaaatch!] somebody step to the front and cut one up!
Been a long time since I've seen one of those. Used to see one every once in a while. But like most old tin they seem to be hiding and waitng to be found again. That is a sweet looking truck.
Boy, this has jump started some dormant brain cells. I'd forgotten about those. One of the Guys my dad flew with in the Air Force had one of those, the only one I've ever seen. He bought it new, and everywhere he went with it people would stop and ask about it. As long as I knew about the truck I I don't think he ever had anything other than a suitcase in the bed and it was NEVER dirty as he washed it everyday and waxed it at least once a month. Frank
Dodge andChevy may not know it -but they maight have started the whole "Ive got a damned nice truck" that I dont use like a truck deal that has progressed to where it is today! I cant believe at first that trucks were just to work the **** out of and weren't even appreciated at all for style!
