Put those 3 things together and crank that eng. over and I guarantee something will start...well maybe not in la county but in the rest of the world...I forgot about the air down there

Has it been sitting for a while? How old is the gas? Dead gas plus 6V battery often equals won't start.

Could be the gas? I'll have to syphon it out and replace with new gas, and not getting any spark on the #1 plug.

hi again, im pretty lame at this computer stuff so haven't put any pics in yet, but lots of other folks have... i have the scalloped watson g****vine clone some of the pics are on h.am.b. and rik hovings site...anyway back to getting your chev going, did you check to make sure it's firing on time..? Ive had a coupla 216 engines loose the timing gear (get outta time)..but you said the rotor was moving which indicates it's still working( usually when the cam gear looses teeth the cam doesn't turn so the rotor won't either...you done good to check the rotor position! well take some of your gas and see if it will burn..be careful don.t burn yourself tho'.. i've taken gas from a car that drove in and like 6 mo later toss alittle on the ground and it wouldn't even burn....you may be on the right track?...also check for cracked dist cap, look really closely inside, cracks are difficult to see..good luck and show those kids you can do it!!

Dude, if you never figured out this problem, get a shop manual for your chevy and read it so that you can learn and understand the basics on the stuff youre asking. Inline 6's are pretty basic, easy to work on and easy to get to everything, so youll have a head start there. Itll tell you how to find out if you have spark or if youre TDC on #1. You need to learn the basics before you can understand or apply any help or tips that are given to you.
    Just some friendly advice.

thats what timing marks are for...on the front pulley damper clean it up and you'll find a line 0 degrees top dead center, with other marks degrees before and after top dead center...with the line on the pulley lined up with the indicator on the timing gear cover you will be on cyl #1 OR ON #6..look at your dist rotor....Yes if you have the v/c off you would be able to see if the rocker arms are at rest on #1....You said you had no spark on #1...how about ANY spark to any plugs??....Maybe the points are fried...do you have juice at the points?..Did you take a compression test?...remember,COMPRESSION+GAS+SPARK= VVROOM..Get after it man!... Summer is slipping by and you'll miss lots of cruisin' !!! Now I want to hear a good report!
