here it is a week after I drug it home. The welds are still hot from the top chop. 'couple months later, note the straight axle. trimming the bottom of doors and body for a section look, channeled and corners rounded. too cold to work on it.. frame going back together. rearend going in. engine and trans mounts. '35 Dodge cowl/ windshield graft, recessed aluminum firewall, Americans and dressup for the 394. '62 Olds tail lights and recesssed license. naked at the first unfinished- took favorite project car, favorite metal finish and logo choice (my car was on all the fliers, plaques and T shirts the next year) fresh 394 almost ready to fire. fast forward a few years, blackwalls and big block Chevy. and here it is again a couple weeks ago, Paul
Love the Sec't look- and THATS absolutely the BEST that could be done to that rear body treatment!!!!IMPRESSED......
Very cool, Paul! You know...the front end of your car always kinda reminded me of what "The Car" would have looked like had it been a rod! They kind of have the same "face", if you know what I mean! I love it...but what ever happened to the 394, just outta curiousity? Not fast enough? Thanks for the killer post!
Your hot rod's grand-daddy?? <img src=http://ebay1.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_EBAY_6d9cbe90e3a1accd6d12cf30e9e4a403/i-1.JPG> I dig 'em both!
Thanks Paul for the thumbnail history lesson. I could look at construction pictures all day.Unless you Do the actual build its the only way the casual observer can ever know how you got FROM THERE TO HERE. Your car somehow reminds me of early short track coupes that I used to watch during my youth. I'll never forget those 1/4 mile dirt tracks and the rough and tumble guys who raced on them every Fri.and Sat. night. The sanitized oval racing we see today lacks the excitement and romance in my opinion.
That's one very tasty hot rod, Paul! IMHO that's a body that does not easily lend itself to a crisp, aggressive look, but you've managed to pull it off in great style!
Great work Paul! Saw it in a mag years ago... It's one of the cars that helped form my mental picture of a HOT ROD. What an aggressive looking vehicle. Ya know guys...it might be interesting to vote or nominate a HAMBer as "HAMBer of the month"! It would enable us to give respects to the hidden talents of some of the guys and gals around here. PAUL is a perfect example! Look at the work he's done to that ride! Its INCREDIBLE what he did in a little dirt floor shed! Not many would even try. I nominate "60's style" as our first "HAMBer of the month". Can we do it? I'd like to see a little showcase like this every month! What do you think guys? Can we??? Bill
Wow, Thats great to see the buildup. It really makes me MORE jazzed up about cars to see the behind the scenes process. Reverse aging.....thats what it is. You take something and make it YOUNGER.... Damn cool post. I am glad you shared with us. + yeah, why not have a HAMBer of the month. I would LOVE to see MORE of this type of stuff here.... Documentation from start to finish with cool stories thrown in. Thanks for the pics.... JT.
Talk about old names, good to hear from you again Paul. It's been a while since I've seen any posts from you. .....................Jack
