When did GM start offering 4 speeds?

    So you only need to check whether your year would have had the Muncie or the T-10. 1963 had both, 1964 was all Muncie, with T-10 special order, 1965 and up was all Muncie. This would be easy to check with GM, just ask for Obama.....

    I ran a 57 chevy in 1964 in f/s 245 hp 283 with a 4-speed they let you use a 4-speed cause it was a dealer option

    1959 was the first year for the 4-speed in full size cheys. It was a $188 option. In 1958 you could order a 4-speed but it was a dealer instaled option..................Rich

    a friend in jersey special ordered a 283 fi and a 4 speed in a 1959 biscayne 4 door . ran in stock eliminator at montgomery airport drags , good thing he had the bill of sale , got protested .

    The original poster is talking Chevrolet, but just so it's written here someplace Pontiac first offered a factory installed 4 speed in the middle of the 1960 production year. It may have been a special order option, that I'm not sure of. By 1961 it was a regular production option in any full size Pontiac. They used the cast iron case T-10 through 1962 and I believe partway into 1963 before they changed to the Muncie.

    57 chevy had a 4 speed , you could get it with factory 2-4 s or fuel injection (yes factory} special cam, solid lifters , 283 c.i. put out 283 horses ,, one horse per inch ...
