OT: Any of You Guys Still Skate?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tony Bones, Sep 24, 2004.

  1. I was lucky enuff to sk8 during the OLD SKOOL/NEW SKOOL change over. My first "real" deck was Corey O'Brien the reaper throwing a ball of fire. I absolutely loved it.

The thing I loved about OLD SKOOL, was THRASHING as hard as you could. Remember power slides? Go as hard and as fast as you could and just **** it up! [IMG]

The thing I loved about NEW SKOOL, was technique and a better feeling board. I was the guy who tried all the hard **** and I didn't die, so my buddies would see that and then master the trick better than me....***HOLES!!! [IMG]

I sk8 in the industrial area where my shop is from time to time. Mostly just ride fast and ollie ****. Other than that I don't get much time to do anymore than that (or the balls).

Sk8boarding IS AN EVOLUTION! Most of us quit around 16-18, after we got cars and more freedom. I really got into lowrider 60's chevys while I was a sk8r and it evolved from there. My whole livelihood has sprung from my obsession with a 7 or 8 ply piece of wood.

Delaware, as I've said before, you have a *****in garage. I'm glad to see our former lifestyle with our current lifestyle (in my case).

To be perfectly honest, the reason I quit sk8ing was because all of my sk8r buddies quit and I didn't want to sk8 by myself. [IMG] At least I picked something just as kool to make up for it.

I just got back from the park this morning again!! Man the pool was the best spot today.
But I will tell things have changed...the kids are little ****s these dayz.
Some fruit booter teeny bopper cut me off and I slammed into him....ok no problem knowone got hurt and shook it off and look up and he was laughing to his friends and what he had done.....So I skated over and asked what the ****s so funny....he got real nervous and his friends backed up....So in front of his friends I proceeded to tell him how it was in the old days and what ****s kids were these days..after calling him a little snake he sat down and wouldnt ride......Maybe next time he'll think twice....When I was a kid I would of had my board tossed into the street then pushed off the ramp. The older guys didnt take no ****!!
Now we have to be so f-ing PC it stinks
anyhow it was a good day and I love skating even when it hurts [IMG]

  8. I hear ya Draglink! A lot of the little kids (especially the ones that are good) see us as some old fart who's just in their way. Back when I was a grom we looked up to the older skaters and tried to stay out of their way. Watch and learn and wait your turn was a way to show respect. Sometimes you just gotta put 'em in their place. I hate watching some 10 year old kid trying to learn 3-flips when he can't even kickturn a flatbank. Every once in a while you'll find a kid that sees you lay out a big layback slide and be stoked and ask you to teach him how to do it. The problem I think is most of them have no idea about the roots of skateboarding.

Sounds like we have the makings of the first HAMB 'Rod and Roll' car and skate compe***ion [IMG]

ps-I usually put the kids in their place by jumping in my ride while they push off toward the bus stop [IMG]

Nah... I lost my skate key and these new fangled velcro sneakers don't have the hard sole to hook them on anyway. [IMG] I was a terror in my day though! [IMG]

Made mine with a 1X6" board and a clamp on, metal wheeled roller skate..., ten minutes later I proceeded down the biggest hill in town..., caught a pebble and became the largest living RASH on the block... [IMG] [IMG]!

when I was a kid I bought either a Sims or a Santa cruz sidewalk surfer it had no concave and had a grid painted on it. It had metal wheels. Was I a dumb*** for repinting it and putting normal trucks and wheels on it? I wish I still had that now. [IMG]

A bunch of the boards I have, I look at them and wish I used rails. Hell if the graphics were still there I could finance my roadster project... I know how ya feel. I also painted an original Jay Adams Flyaway helmet checkerboard in '80. It was the punk rock thing to do...

  22. now i take look back of near 20 years of skateboarding ,i started with ten or so and it still rules my live ,i mean i cant skate to often this days because my back,my shoulder ,my elbow,my knees and so on but i still skate . I still smile when i am faster as a car downhill , Still i forget everything around me when i drop into a bowl and do a madonna ,a boneless are whatever in the other wall and i still wonder why i do that **** when i cant walk in the evening :)
Today i am 32 years old and i run a skateshop
www.friendship-bs.ch with my younger brother ,he sell the skateboards in our shop and i do the hairstyles and beside we are selling punkrock lps . Its something i dont earn a lot of money with it but it puts a smile on my face ,every ****ing morning again . Yeah probalbly i had a lot of more cars if i would do a serious nine to five job , but you now what . i give a **** about it i love what i do SKATEBOARDING RULES
and by the way allways remember
you did not stop skateboarding because you get old
you get old because you stoped skateboarding

  23. That's rad Deniz! Keep at it.

I've hit the park a couple times since starting this post. I ****...but am having fun. Definitely need to get some knee pads and wrist guards for sure. Maybe even some of those stylee ****/hip pads [IMG]

There's a couple 14 year old kids I met at the skate shop when I was buying my board. I like them. They only do OG tricks...except they do them bigger than the pros used to. They totally realize I ****, but think it's cool that I'm trying to figure it out again. Youngsters aren't all bad...just the bad ones.

I skated this morning before work a little. Getting more comfortable w/ roll ins and speed. Maybe I'll see the coping soon.

Well, time to jump in. Skated off and on from 1970-1977. No park's, or big slab's of concrete. Just sliver's of sidewalk's and Cobblestone street's! In 10th grade I would ride my no-name board to school. The Nazi principal would just lay in wait to catch me riding it on school property. I bought a Bone's T-shirt in Tulsa in '88. Still have it. It has the 'torn-shirt-bone's-showing' graphic's. Do they make Heavy duty wrist brace's? Steel-belted like? Would like to surf the sidewalk from time to time before Father Time take's it all away.

One of the last times i was skating in NYC , I broke my arm on one of those ba*****t doors that sunk about a foot down as i skated over it.
No insurance and years later my elbow is all ****ed up.

All i gotta say is the days of SKATING when i was a kid were some of the best times of my life, now im so into cars and trying to work on them - it kinda gives me that same feeling as when i was a kid, like im discovering new things everyday.

If anyone wants a CD of some old skatepunk, PM me and pay for the mail and i'll hook you up

Miss the old Upland days.Alot of good skate parks gone. Anybody ever go to the **** bowl in Palm Springs? Throw a few flares in the bowl and rock out. JFA played once out there. One of the best nights of ny life.
On a another note, Just did a Flogging Molly show. Matt Hensley rocks on the accordion...
