Getting ready to start on my '52 rat rod project. This truck was going to be my father in-laws retirement project but he never got started. He gave me the truck this past week. The price was right, free! Seems to be a solid truck overall. One owner truck purchased locally. Plans are to use the existing frame and go with the Heidt's weld in cross member and Mustang II style suspension. Late model LS1 or LS2 power with a 5 or 6 speed manual trans. Disc brake Camaro rear. Old school look with late model power and suspension. Flat black fenders, flat gray bed sides, doors and hood and flat black upper cab. That's the plan. You know how plans seem to change as we go forward.
Just add the 20" billets, and toyo low profile tires. Hell yeah!!! Oh don't forget the idiot tilt steering column and billet steering wheel and all the billet pulleys for the front of the engine. How many amps are you putting under the fiberglass tonneau cover? Is it still a R#t R^d if it has a MII frontend under it? Welcome to the HAMB.
Been there and done that on my '66 Chevy II. This is going to be a daily or somewhat daily driver, that is why I'm building this project. My father in-law has a '50 AD and it's is all OE. It drives like crap. That is why I decided to go with the Heidts cross member. I also have a '39 Chevy truck I plan on running all rat.
Welcome, welcome. Used to date a girl from Asheville. Great city. You are among kindred spirits. But try to avoid the R word. Some guys might take offense. Just say "Traditional hot rod."
Thanks phartman. I was in Richmond last month. Awesome river revitalization in the city of Richmond! Just trying something new with the '52 AD. I like the info. I'm finding a lot of good information in the H.A.M.B.
What phartman said. Though your not sportin' traditional suspension, I can't blame you for wanting a vehicle that handles nice. I just had to jerk your chain a little, this site isn't rat rod friendly. Once again, welcome aboard.
I'm not concerned with who is friendly or what they prefer in regards to styles. I was referred to the board and I like the information that is available.
Way to rare up on your hind legs, buddy! You are going to get along just fine here, I have a feeling. If you come this way in August for the Nat'ls, look me up and I'll buy you a beer.
My wife and I will be in Williamsburg in September. We may come back through Williamsburg. If so, I will shoot you an e-mail.
