Here's the deal I have a 1942 Willys sedan, I have had it for 4 years. 350/350, stang II, 8" rear etc etc. Great family car, but you know how it goes, I'm getting a little bored of it, and road wear etc is starting to set in. There are a few things I never liked about this car and still don't, but it is a good looker, and very dependable and I can fit in all 3 kids and a cooler and chairs. Now I have a trade offer for a 33 Ford highboy pickup, also 350/350 Pete and Jakes suspension on original ford frame, Non chopped, non channeled, supposedly no rust in any part of it ever. Bed is custom built. The tailgate on it sucks. It is a fairly frsh build, black suede red highlights. I'm not 100% hip on a few things about this truck, but it is all an easy swap, headlights tailgate, steering wheel etc. Wee are supposed to meet half way, he drives his I drive mine, basically to prove road worthiness. I can pick out a turd pretty quick, so I'm not saying that it is a done deal. I MUST driave, and see his first. He is an older guy just wanting a more roomy car. I have been wanting a bobber style truck for a while. My biggest delima is to part with a family car? Even though it is a bit Street Roddy? My wife loves it, but I'm tired of parts of it. Again, I'm a big boy and can spot a good car, and a good build. Also we both are decided that neither of us will spend any cash. It is straight across or nothing. Now for your guys' input. Tell me what you think.

Straight-up trade? Your car is way nicer than that truck.

Sorry but that truck doesn't have the craftmanship that your Willy's has and that is what I am able to see in the pics you provided. I am not knocking the truck but it is lacking detail and the box looks home made along with not lining up correctly. Look at the gap between the body and the box.
I am always amazed what people do ( exhaust pipes).

I think your sedan is much cooler than the truck. I don't like the trucks bed or the red parts of the paint job.

If you put a straight axle under the sedan I would like it even more.

keep the car you'll thank yourself later

  12. I think your on crack if you trade that Willy's away. You Willy's MUST be fiberglass if your condsidering this. That truck build did not look too hard. I see nothing real special about it. Your Willy's is worth WWAAAYYYYY more money. Maybe if that guy gives you a shit-load of cash AND that truck. Otherwise no. What are you on? I want some.

Thanks guys keep them coming. I hate making rash decisions, so I'm leaning towards your opinions. Thanks, Rusty. And yeah my car is steel. I was just tossing the idae for something different around, then this popped up all the sudden and cought me off guard. I like the truck, but see myself re-doing a few things, and as for the Willys I'm slowly getting the things I dislike worked out, but am getting tired of working on it.

I wouldn't trade either, unless I was the other guy. UN-street rod it and enjoy.

Another No . I love pic ups. but That's Rough Compared to yours. Just another project in my opinioin.

  19. Keep the Willys.

You could build a better truck for less. Or find a better truck thats done.

It doesn't have anything going for it that perks me up..

Rusty, is you family going together worth trading down? Or, sell me the Willys for the price of the truck.

  21. Look, if your tired of the Willys put it away in the back of the garage and cover it for 6 mos. When you pull it out it will be like a new car again. That's what I do and I have 9 Hot Rods.

I wish I had a cool pre-'48 family cruiser like your Willys. That's why I'm building my 33 Fordor. So I'm in the don't trade camp.

Money wise, I think the Willys is also worth more and would be harder to find another to build.

  26. Trades are tough. I traded a '62 Vette I had for 15 years for my '40 Chevy convert which I've now had for 30 years and roughly 160,000 miles.. It's been put up a couple times and I'm still working on it. Although '62 vettes are big money cars now I never felt that I got the bad end of the trade. Don't forget there's squat leg room in those trucks.

Your call, just my $0.02 worth.

You guys are kinda making me feel guilty fo even thinking about it. :), but I guess thats what I asked for. I believe that I will pass on this deal, as I may have another in the works anyway. How about trading my 34 Ford sedan for a 29 model A sedan? Let the beatings begin!!

Without details and pics, hard to say.....BUT seems like your getting better!

  29. I remember a few years back going to look at a 41 willys 4dr. It could have been a 42, the guy was not sure. He ended up selling it for $5500. It was all original and quite rusty.
It was missing inches off every lower panel from the grass growing all around it.

I figure this was 6 years ago, so it must be worth more now. Just to give you a perspective on the value of your car, which I think is still much more than the truck.

This one is a little harder. A 34 project for an (almost) 29 runner. Maybe a flip of a coin would be best here.
