I guess i dont know how someone comes up with "lack of focus", its a car show correct? there always going to be some cars someone doesnt like there, i know alot of guys want it to go back to 59 and earlier which i myself wouldnt mind either, i consider alot of newer cars filler, but again i like early fords, at least the show doesnt cop out and raise the entry year to 72 like other car clubs have done just to make more money, i still think its a fun show, i go there with friends to see freinds and look at cars, all kinds of cars, and all years of cars. id never miss it to work on my car, i have 362 days to do that!

true there will always be cars that some folks don't like, but I meant lack of focus as in not very discriminating like the Lonestar ROundup or the LA Roadster show ... Lowriders, Rats, Traditional cars, heck any thing pre '64 that will move is allowed in ... thats what I mean by "Lack of focus"

I like some of the early 60's stuff, but pre '59 would be a good idea to me too. I wouldn't miss Back to the 50's.

  4. Thank you ***us and Ricky!
How can you focus nearly 12,000 cars built by 12,000 different minds? This is America after all. Hot rodding is about freedom and creativity. I think your dedication to traditional rods is great but the "**** everything else" mind set get pretty tiresome.
There's just about something there for every one. The ****ty economy sure hasn't slowed it down.

  6. I’ve been going to this show my whole life, and that is not an accurate depiction of the show. However, the 50's has always been the 50's. It isn't a traditional hot rod show. They have never turned away cars because they didn't adhere to a specific set of standards. I wonder why? Well, the Minnesota Street Rod ***ociation is made up mostly of old timers. People that ACTUALLY lived in the "traditional" age. Perhaps their experience has led them to a little wiser understanding of hot rodding. Perhaps they understand that the purpose of their particular show should be to let everyone have fun, not create a clique that will eventually shun all newcomers. Don't get me wrong, I love traditional car shows with strict rules because 99% of the cars there are ones I like to oogle. And there are certainly times and places for shows that exclude most. But this isn’t one of those shows. The 50’s is obviously not designed for die-hard traditionalists. It caters more to the hobbyist that likes to have fun bringing their family out to an event. I see the rat rod kids having a ton of fun with their cars using whatever they can find to make them their own, and to me that is truer to the spirit of hot rodding than sitting around being bitter at every god damn thing that doesn't fall into your specific set of tastes. If you don't like them, don't look at them. The same method has been used by thousands of men when they encounter our wives and girlfriends. No matter how hot she is, there will still be guys that think (insert any type of girl here) are disgusting.
    <o></o>
The show it was it is, and it’s been that way for 30 some odd years. We should all appreciate the lesser looking vehicles at these shows because without them we would not know how cool a traditional 5 window coupe actually is. Think about it. In the days these cars actually were being produced, nobody gave a ****. They were left in barns and fields to rot for eternity. But when newer and less charming vehicles came along, everyone gained a new appreciation for them. Just like someday when we are all ripping around on some quantum physics powered flying transport, we will all probably have a new appreciation for a tuned up gasoline burning Honda from the 90’s. Contrast. The world would **** without it.

    Wow!
This thread really stirred up a hornets nest!

I was telling my buddy that this show is a real representation of life....

You have 11,000 different people all in the same room having a party:

There's the older folks sitting over in the same corner wearing the same fancy clothes they have for years (though out of style) talking about how the party just isn't the same as it was when they started it. Ocasionally though, some of them are SO old that their clothes have come back into style.

You have the group of average folks who just enjoy coming to the party every year to see their old friends and catch up. A few may have had some "major body work" done or changed spouses, but for the most, just a simple shoe or tie change is about all this group does. This group is the majority at the party.

There's the "loners". they're the ones that come to the party by themselves. They might try to seek out people "like them" and meet new friends, and have a great time, or are just the type that like to stick to themselves regardless.

Of course you'll have a sprinkling of "Sugar Daddy's, Trophy Wives, ****'s, Jock's and Ego Meniacs. They're all doing their thing to be noticed, whether good or bad. Usually it's just "crusing" the room, shooting their mouth off once-in-a-while, or making sure their sitting at the "In" table. Or at least on the right corner so the "Important" people see them there.

Then, You have a handfull that are loud and obnoxious trying to get everyone to notice them by wearing crazy outfits, crazy hair, showing off all their tatoos or drinking too much and just being overly loud. These are usually the youngest guests. Ocasionally, there will be an adult in the group who just hasn't "grown up". The older folks look at them in disgust, knowing their the ones that will be hosting the party when their gone. They think to themselves..."hopefully they go to a different party next year". Unfortunately, these are the ones everybody remembers and are usually talking about the next day.

Finally, there's the few that nobody notices at first. One's like the beautifull shy Blonde in the pefect dress that was sitting over in the corner. She didn't get a "good" seat", so nobody really noticed her until after the party. Then they realize what they missed. Or maybe it's the young guy who came in the perfect suit, with just the right accesories. He show's that there are young people who still know how your supposed to dress for the right occasion.

The last two give the "old Folk's" hope for the future!

I saw the pics and thought it was a very poor representation of the show too, that's too bad it's a very good show and one I hate to miss each year. What do they get 11,000 to 12,000 cars there? And someone posts these pics to show??????

    Thanks.

I enjoyed looking at the cars, getting some ideas, learning some things, visiting with new and old friends, buying some parts, cruising, and just seeing everyone there enjoying themselves and having fun.

    And--thanks to everyone posting pictures.

(I think my mustasche is older than the self appointed "Traditional Police").

Yes it is, and doesn't belong on the HAMB.

Thankfully the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green and LARS the same weekend had very few of these POS and the folks that posted coverage of these shows actually chose to post photos of the cool traditional styled cars including the race cars, so there are lots of cool photo coverage of these other events to look at this week.

Who cares that you got on TV, that statement just showed the mentality of your mindset. Attention seeking, with shock value, instead of building a quality car to please yourself, that's fun to "drive". That's cool , if that's your motivation, but why do people insist on pushing these style of cars, on this site? I'm sure, out of 12,000 cars, there were a few HAMB friendly, "Traditional Hot Rods and Customs", but it seems some people post these cars, just to create drama. I applaud the creativity shown, on some of these rides, and accept the "to each their own", freedom to build what you want, but why post the pics of those cars here, when other sites would welcome and accept them. If posting them here is solely to create these **** storms, your motivation is not the cars, it's this childish, "we don't give a **** what any of you think", disrespect, that pisses many of us off. Build whatever you want, but don't try telling everyone else, what this fine site, is supposed to accept. You didn't build it, you're new here. Hang around, figure out what a "Traditional Hot Rod" really is, then earn some respect by posting some constructive questions, tech or historic photos. That's what made the HAMB the largest, most informative automotive site, and most of us, would like it to stay focused, on what is stated in the rules, we "all agreed to" when we signed on. Out of respect to Ryan, the moderators and many other fine people, who have made this site, such a quality "Traditional Hot Rod and Custom" forum, let's try and keep it that.
