I have been thinking about using one on my nailhead. Has anyone got one on there car. What tach are you using. Got any pix thanks Tom
I had a 1957 Corvette, 283 horse fueler, in 1961 that had a tach driven off the generator. It caused me to hurt the engine, because I believed the tach, which I found out was about 1,000 rpm off ( slow ) at higher rpm's, because of belt slippage. Bob
Fulie cars were tach driven. All 62 and newer cars were tach driven. There is a reduction bos on the back of the generator for generator tach drives. Never give it much thought, but anything other than original pulleys would probably change the reading. Was never a good idea, but lots of Corvettes have them, Unless you already have a Corvette Tach why spend the big bucks for a bad idea?
I've got Austin Healey generator/drive/tach that I'm planning on using. Not nearly far enough along to worry about the "how to do it part" yet though. At some point I'll figure out the stock AH crank to gen ratio and somehow duplicate that.
I have been considering using one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors http://www.motorcityreman.com/lucafogewdr.html Here is just the tach drive unit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/tach drive
I built a drive for the 56 chrysler generator I've got on my car. It reads about 300 rpm too fast so I need to find a .650 ratio adapter to replace the .800 I've got on it. The biggest problem I had was reversing direction but I found a right angle 1 to 1 adapter that reversed direction, I believe it came off an old bus.
