My wife works with a non-profit organization called Dreams With Wings. They are a program that supports adults with developmental disabilities. Over the past year or so they have been struggling in this crazy economy. So the wife and I were talking about fund raising when it hit me like a ton bricks. Let's have damn car show. So she asked the boss and she said to work out the details and start getting the word around. So here is the first place I thought I would start... We do not have all the bugs worked out but we are looking at early September. Any information, comments, encouragement, freebies, you name it we can use it. Here is the website just to show everyone this is a legit organization... www.dreamswithwings.org I wanted to go purely traditional rods but the wife said ( and I agreed ) that we should make it a pre-'73 show with bikes too. These people do some absolutely great things for this community and they deserve as much support as they can get. So what do you say, can we get a little help?
Hello, I live in indianapolis, but I know a lot of people in your town. There is a car club named the Louisville Leads I'm sure you have heard or seen them around your town. I will tell them about your show, and if you see one around just ask them for some input, tell them "Mony" from Indy said to ask, in the mean time I will try to get in touch with them.
Thanks. It really is a good cause. I hope I get a lot info and tips on this I would like for it to turn into a yearly event. We have few vacant or somewhat vacant lots in mind near the Breckinridge ln/ Hikes Point area here in Louisville, Ky. But nothing is set in stone. Keep the advice and leads coming. I have had few folks write me some name and numbers, I do appreciate it.
Well it looks like my wife and I have a good lead on place to have the show. It's on river road next to the Ohio. Hot spot for Saturday travelers and there are many eating establishment very near by that may donate or help. Plenty of room for a descent size show. I'll try to get some pics. Looking for a cool name that encorporates "Dreams with Wings" and cars. Also need some ideas on rules and awards. Would like to keep it simple. Any ideas would definately be considered.
Updates!!!!!! My good friend Sideshow has came through once again. Check this out. It has everything a person might to get to the show. all the info and goodies. I would go to some of the local cruises and p*** out flyers for your show. The castle on bardstown rd. is the 4th friday each month. They draw a big crowd. a friend of mine was p***ing out flyers for his show last month there and he took 500 flyers and ran out. they say about 600, 650, cars show up. It is about 2 miles south of the snyder freeway on bardstown rd. on the left you cant miss it. Also louisville lead puts on a cruise at the tractor supply in hillview on preston the second sat. each month. Lots of different years of cars but its a place to start. The castle is tonight. Good luck. People will show up for a good cause.
You must be one of those retire peeps like my folks who can't remember what day of the week it is huh??
Yeah, Everyday is saturday to me since retiring,. But the castle show is still friday. That is tomorrow i think....................
Post some info on the Ky social group. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=89 I will spread the word down here in central KY
Say Fuel, are you going to make it to the show with that sweet Roadster I saw at Beatersville? Let folks know they can pre-register but also volunteer via the new car show web site at http://www.rollindreams.com - This is a good cause! Hope to see all the Rod Kings out there!
I'll be there in the roadster and I'll drag some of the other Rod Kings with me. I'll talk with the others about sponsoring a custom trophy for the show.
Thats excellent news! If you guys do decide to do a trophy, consider coordination with humfleet (this thread starter). He is behind the show and of course the trophies as well. I dropped some old stuff and vintage tools to help him along with some of the trophies, but after meeting you guys, I would love to see what you come up with! Hell, checkin' out the crafty trophies is just about as much fun as seeing all the righteous rides at these shows Really lookin' forward to seeing you guys out there!
I have a couple of friends who are stripers in Louisville(Wendell Burnett and Mark Harmon). They might be interested.I'll give them a call.
