I like it. I think a long, low wide car looks best. Look at modern GM cars, like the Caddys. They look like the sides have been squished in. Ugly as sin.

Your car is a little rough around the edges. So what. Enjoy it.

  2. Well, the same year Plymouth 4-door would be even more worthless, and an early Kaiser even moreso. But yeah, they're nothing special.

I don't know where you get that much in parts out of one, though, by the time the body is rotted that bad, most of the chrome is shot too, which leaves you with some stainless, some mechanical bits, and maybe the glass. One reason I avoid parting cars out is 9 times out of 10 I'm left with a pile of parts no one wanted any more than they did the whole car, and they just end up going to the scrapper piled in some other car.

As for the OP's car, I don't like some of the proportions either, the setback on the front wheel arches looks odd to me. But it's more than I've done this year. If it makes you happy, so what? Heck I want to plant a TBI 350 in my '50 Chevy. I don't care if it's traditional or not. Customs are supposed to look good with the hood closed, anyways.

Just don't go the skulls, crosses and spiderwebs route on it.

I don't like to bash people on here but this car is all bad. Just think of it as a learning experance and start over. Don't go so far next time maybe a mild custom won't be so bad. Your young and have plenty of time to improve. The stuff I was doing in my early twenties wasn't that great eather. Just keep on trying. Spend more time on your fit up and metal shaping. Good luck Scott

What I don't understand is nobody is up in arms for what he did to that poor Caprice.....

And to the OPP, build what you want how you want, if someone has a problem with it tell them to build their own. Can't wait to see more pics.

lol, now thats an original thought.

  9. I love how all the "experts" are getting pissy cause some Hambers still seem to like the car and talent involved .......I'm sure the first time a car was ever chopped or sectioned there were "experts" complaining about that too.....

The lexan windshield will eventually scratch.

Maybe a three piece windshield? Why not? The dividers can line up with your 'racing stripe'.

My opinion on the car means nothing, so there's no reason to even go there.
But, i will say this. To be 23 years old, and taking on a project of that size is one hell of a step..
For that alone i say way to go and keep it up!
I've met guy's that have been into car's a long long time, that can't even set the timing on the car 'they built'..and look at what you've done already at only 23...
Like it or not, that's a serious project..

man, I gotta say.. I wish I started something as major as that when I was 23.. hell I bet I coulda fucked it up way more then what people are saying you did.. seriously.. I'm amazed that you built that thing..wiether or not its perfect or whatever.. its your first major build.. and I havent heard you brag about your skills or how much you think its better then any others.. actually Im pretty sure you put it down as being close to rattish..and your skills lacking.. but at least to me there are some great points you made....its a custom, and customs were all about making something totally different then anyone elses.. and .. you said your having fun with it..which to me , thats one of the most important things besides safety on a build..if your having fun with it, youll have fun with another.. and another.. means less cars being scrapped, and more younger guys getting into old cars..keep enjoying your ride, and with your enthusasim I'm sure in 5-10 years youll be the talk of some website about a great and killer car you just built..

hey man,,the most important thing is you DID something,,,you didn't just think about it,,you DID it,,,,the ONLY way to learn is by exerience,,,and you got a lot of experience with that car,,,it may not be everyones cup of tea,,,BUT that's not important,,you can take whatever you've learned on this car and put it to good use in your future builds,,,i hope you don't let any of the negative posts discourage you,,,,,

  14. I think its Great that he Built that Car, most guys you meet at Car Shows say they
    built their Cars
until you start asking Questions & find out they Bought it or Somebody else Built it
Thats how Hot Roding & Kustoms started back in the 40's & 50's
you did it your way and if somebody didn't like you Told them where to go!
I had a Freind back in the 50's that had so much Lead on his Car that it hardly Moved
    it was a 50 Ford
he ended up putting a Cad engine in it so he could Drive it!
    Just my 3.2 cents

I'm not going to post an opinion, but I admire your determination!

And this is entertaining as hell, so here's a free bump...

Southpark, your determination to at least finish this to a driveable state is inspirational! It takes guts to cut up a car, especially if you aren't sure about getting anything driveable when you are done. I know, I've cut up several and they are still cut up.

To the detracters regarding this project: What were you doing when you were 23?! Get off his ass! It's people like you who have dogged this kind of potential since Kustomizing first got started. Those cars weren't a lot better, so quit dreaming about how perfect things were 'back in the day'!

Concerning the metalwork: As has been stated, I'll bet you learned a huge amount! Continue to learn, on your own cars! LOL That's not a cut! It's just a safety thing, if you did this to somebody else's car, you'd be shot! However, since it is your own car, you can experiment to your hearts content, without risk of getting punched in the neck!

I only wish I had done just one project like this, when I was 23! My life would have been changed forever ...
I had the desire, and possibly more skills but, I allowed myself to be reined in by cooler heads. The trouble is those same 'cooler heads' lacked passion for Kustomizing. There were and always will be detracters trying to keep you from ruining some project or another, tell them to 'go get your own project and leave mine alone', or at least 'wait until I ask for your opinion'!

About the glass issue: Get creative! Make some templates, and hit the wrecking yards! There has to be something that will work, even if it's a 3 piece windshield! Same goes for the back glass, maybe adjust the opening size/shape?

    Good luck, and thanks!

Pretty cool car. yeah, it's a little rough, but WAY back on page 2 or something you clearly said you were going to drive it this summer and re-work the body to smooth it out when it gets cold. Sign me up for that thread! Can't wait!

I've seen one or two customs where they swapped in the roof and windshield from a newer model car. You could probably swap in just the windshield and surrounding sheet metal - pillars, cowl and top roof edge, keep the roof you widened. Just go through the wrecking yard until you find one that fits. Just saying it should be possible.

This thread has more drama than a stupid reality show!
Hey just wanted to say way to go, I can relate with all of the comments, when I started posting my artwork on various websites people would critique it all the time. Now I am better with practice and not much is said. Keep your head up and enjoy your ride. All I can say is keep it up and who cares what everyone else says, probably 3/4 of them have never attempted something that extreme.:)

Wow! that is a lot of work. I kinda like it. The only thing that throws me off it the amount of body that is foreward of the front wheels. It just seems a bit long.
