Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good and this is a small NAPA success story.

I needed a replacement air filter for my hotrod-no idea as to model number, size etc. only the old one for dimensions. Thanks to HAMBers, I found a K&N site that cross referenced filters based on measurements so armed with 8 different possibilities,I marched into NAPA where the counter guys systematically go through the list proving that nothing matches what I've got.

Just as I'm giving up, cause I'm late for work, I notice that at the other end of the counter, the NAPA guy has brought out a special order filter that looks just like what I need. So I mosey on down and ask the customer if I can try it for size. Turns out it's perfect and then the guy says to take it cause it won't work for him.

What are the odds that the only filter in the store that will work comes out at the same time that I need it? Five minutes either way and I wouldn't have a clue. Small thing that made my day.:D

The guys at napa are incredible in customer service. I shopped at the dark side ( Kragens) for years and now i wont go anywhere but napa or auto zone if they dont have something but thats highly unlikely

So you wrote the part number down I hope. That is some amazing luck you had. Maybe you should've bought a lottery ticket too. I go out of my way to go to an independently owned NAPA. The owner there jumps through hoops to help me out. I stopped going to the big city NAPA, it's corporately owned and the guys there are just collecting paychecks. They could'nt care less if I found a match to the greasy old part I brought in.

Napa didn't have anything to do with his good fortune, the 'other guy' made it happen.

While that's technically true, there were two guys trying ot help me out. It wouldn't have been the first time I was back in their stacks trying to find something that fit-I spent a LOT of hours staring at their ceiling for of radiator hoses trying to figure out which one my lower radiator hose came from. And they will give you a AAA discount, too.

We have a corpo napa and an indie. The corpo is 11 miles from home. The indie is 47 in Benson. Guess what, its a real nice putt to Benson.
i have no prob with kragen/oreilley cause the main guy there is an old school motor head and is very helpfull on the new stuff too. He's gonna retire soon then thats that. auto zone, thats for oil or letting a high school chickie screw up plugs for a 69 VW van. "Is that air cooled?"
