i'm installing a 272 in my 55 fairlane and discorverd it looks like a brace is missing, it looks like it supports the grill and extends from one side of the rad support to the other, i cant seem to find a pic anywhere, would anyone have a pic or be able to point me in the right direction, i'll try and find one but i have no idea what to look for, thanks.
I have my wagon apart right now and there is a 1/4" diameter rod that has a flat area on each end for bolting thru. It connects the two sides of the core support together, I can see the mounting holes for it in the large picture. Hope that helps.
Hey, My 56 Ford wagon is basically the same as your 55 in that spot. On mine, there is a vertical brace that goes from the center of the upper radiator shroud (shown in your first picture), down to the center of the lower splash apron (the lower thing behind the bumper in your second picture). Here it is still attached to the grill from my 56: In this next picture I am holding the small brace that is found under the lower splash apron. It attaches to the frame and to the upper brace, sandwiching the splash apron between them: Hope this helps you out, Greg
The gap above the grille is normal but there is a front motor mount you are missing,I think you can get by without it as I will probably not use it when I put a Y block back in my 55.
