I've got a '71 429 with DOVE-C heads. I'm wanting to run an edelbrock performer RPM intake and the matched cam with these specs:
    <TABLE border=2><TBODY><TR><TD>1500-6500 RPM</TD></TR><TR><TD>Duration Advertised</TD><TD>290° Intake/300° Exhaust</TD></TR><TR><TD>Duration @ .050''</TD><TD>234° Intake/244° Exhaust</TD></TR><TR><TD>Lift @ Valve</TD><TD>.556'' Intake/.581'' Exhaust</TD></TR><TR><TD>Lift @ Cam</TD><TD>.325'' Intake/.340'' Exhaust</TD></TR><TR><TD>Lobe Separation Angle</TD><TD>108°</TD></TR><TR><TD>Intake Centerline</TD><TD>103°</TD></TR><TR><TD>Intake Timing @ .050"</TD><TD> Open 14° BTDC
    Close 40° ABDC</TD></TR><TR><TD>Exhaust Timing @ .050"</TD><TD> Open 55° BBDC
    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
The pistons I got aren't stock, flat-top style, they have a small, valve-relief style dish to em. From what I hear, I shouldnt have to any valve-to-piston clearance issues....don't know what to believe.

I'm using stock crank, stock-spec Eagle H beams, and Harland sharp roller rockers.

I know these DOVE-C heads are the better of the few that were available on 429's, having a closed, 72cc chamber.
Any 385-series guys out there have any info on this setup?

    Thanks

Always clay the pistons and check the valve to piston clearance. Its just a smart thing to do and with only 556 lift you should be OK. With the 72 cc chambers and flat tops your compression is going to be up there and premium gas only to keep detonation under control. I am running close to the same set up but with Aluminum heads and deep dish (23cc) pistons and still at 9.5 1 compression.BBF make tons of compression real easy.

  4. Check the valve guide to valve spring retainer clearance !! When raising the lift on the 429-460 heads they sometimes run out of room and the retainers will smack the top of the valve guide !! >>>>.

a few of my buddies that ran a 429/460 were happier with a Stealth manifold. it had a better bottom end than the RPM. might want to look into it. MAN i need to get my truck done.. plan to put my SCJ in it, that should be fun:D
