I have this axle that i picked up for my 65 comet straight axle swap as far as i can guess it is not a factory axle it came from a 66-77 bronco hay wagon the guy that had it said when he got it ,it had some sort of delivery cube body on it. I recognized the frame as an early bronco since i have one as a mud rig it still had the 5 on 5.5 9 in rear and gas tank. i did the cutting so i grabbed them too, as far as i know ford never made a 2wd bronco the front axle has the wedge brackets on it for the typical c bushing arms for ford 4wd but the hubs are 5 on 4.5 the brake drums are 10 inch they say fomoco and 86559 on them the second number could be a rusted out 8 it is 59 inches wide the only thing that makes me think its a factory axle is the point where the stub meets the tube it looks like some one knew what they were doing and not the typical hack welds for something like this. i thought all factory ford axles were I beams? the reason i need to identify it is so i can rebuild the brakes. http://i716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/reddevil666_album/DSCF0196.jpg http://i716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/reddevil666_album/DSCF0199.jpg http://i716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/reddevil666_album/DSCF0197.jpg http://i716.photobucket.com/albums/ww168/reddevil666_album/DSCF0198.jpg
Ford made some ch***is for the postal truck. I know that some had ford 9 inch rears under them and the ch***is looked like the early bronco. But I never looked at the front axle that close. I do remember that the front axle was round and had 5 on 4 1/2 hubs. That may be what it is.
wow so he might not have been talking out of his *** then. i wonder if the brakes are the same ones on a p***enger car then that would be sweet! probably hard to find kingpins though
sweet thanks !!! this seems like a lucky find, since i shouldnt have to narrow it to use it under the vomet like i've seen when using econoline axles
