A local guy was trying to sell me an adapter to mate a late flathead with an early (Ford) flathead tranny, claims it is a Ford part. If it is a Ford part that means that it must be a '49 Merc bellhousing, doesn't it? Anyone know where I could find a picture on the web? I wouldn't know a '49 Merc bellhousing if I feel over it.

I've got one in the shed which I could take a pic of and email it to you if you don't get one any other way. I think it was a truck part cos the bellhousing on trucks did not change after 48 whereas the car trans did. I also have the starter plate which is a necessary part too so if you do buy it make sure that you get that bit also.

I've got both the Mercury stamped steel unit and the Ford cast unit with the correct starter plates available for sale. Where are you in Massachusetts?

This is what the truck one looks like. The '49 to early '51 Merc. are the same only they are stamped steel.:):D
