I have a 49 ford fordor, I am putting in a 302/AOD combo and I am looking for suggestions on the best rear end to use for this, Any help is good help.

  2. If memory serves, an 8 inch from a Granada or Monarch is the right width/bolt pattern...ratios will be pretty tall though...plenty strong to handle the 302...

  3. if i remember right a ford 8" rear from a maverick is just about a perfect fit.

  4. Yup, 8 inch maverick is a perfect fit. not as easy to find these days but they're still out there. Ford explorer should be right do a search on this site for width believe its right. Lot of those available with lots of different ratios. Plenty strong.

  6. What they all said above. I've run the piss out of a lot of 8 inchers behind 302's and 289's in Mustangs and the one in my 350 powered 40 Merc (from a Granada) and they take it all. Nary a complaint. The one in my Merc has the big finned Granada brakes too. Good set up.

    I have 302/aod in my '28. 8 inch is a great fit. 3.80 gears w/235/75/15 tires, runs 2200 rpm at 70 mph
