I'm looking for recommendations for a good machine shop in the Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins area that knows its way around the the W motors. The non-standard deck angle and no combustion chamber heads make this a trickier project than your standard SB or BB so I really need a shop with experience and a proven track record. 1959 p***enger car block with not many miles on it judging by the tiny ridges at the tops of the bores. Not looking to make a lot of power (275-300) in a hiboy phaeton that will probably weigh about 2600 lbs. This is a project I'll be working on with my grandson and I'd like to get the engine pieces back in good shape so we can get this back together and into the ch***is we're working on. Any pointers or warnings would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, -Doc
Used to be a guy in Denver area named Hermon Chapman. He was very good with the W motor. He was an old guy when he built our 409 so he may be dead by now. Also used to be a guy in Denver named Fred Kennedy (spelling?) he owed a junk yard there, and had an old race car a 59 Biscayne with a blown 348. Bad *** car. Lets see if we can find a pic???
The angled deck shouldn't make much difference anymore, since most modern boring equipment lines up off the crank centerline and doesn't bolt to the deck.
I've been using Northglenn Engine Re-builders for a while now, quality work @ a fair price. Steve Harwood the owner is a old drag racer, really sharp. about 160th & Colorado Blvd a google should find him.. Good Luck, sounds like a great family build.
