I have a TH-350 in my pickup, and it wouldn't go into reverse. This is a relatively fresh, well built trans with the TCI super kit in it. Maybe 7000 miles on it. Big trans cooler and Derale pan to aid in cooling. I thought my shifter was bad because the bushings fell out of the old column linkage. While dis***embling the linkage, I found that the selector on the trans was not feeling right. It would lock into park without an issue. But when I would try to move it into reverse, it would slide all the way into neutral without any "click" then drop into drive without a "click". It would click into 2-1, but with some extra effort. The trans, when in drive, shifts normally and operates as it should. I just can't find reverse. I'm no trans expert, and I talked to my buddy that built it and got his opinion. I'd like to hear what you guys think. Thanks in advance.
loose nut on the shifter shaft inside the trans? it sounds like a mechanical problem with the linkage inside the trans, so pull the pan off and see
Like Squirrel said. Or just maybe the roller/spring steel detent broke off. Has to be something in that area to do with the manual valve.
Drop the pan and inspect the "rooster comb" that engages the detent spring beside the valve body. Either the spring has come unbolted, or the inner nut that attaches the rooster comb to the shift shaft has come loose. Also look at the "s" shaped link that attaches the manual valve to the shift linkage. Jerry
