    Hey;

    I just moved to Missouri from another state.

    I have a 1931 Chevy that is somewhat more than a roller with a clean ***le from Iowa. When I went to register it and get new plates, they say that I need a safety inspection and an odometer reading.

    To make a long story short; they say that I can hire a certified inspector to come to the house or maybe the highway patrol would send somebody out.

    I shudder to think what they will say when they look at the VIN plate which has corroded into nothing after 78 years under the rubber floor mat.

    Anybody have any experience with this or have any suggestions??

    Regards, Twobit

    If you want regular Mo. Plates you need to have a saftey inspection. Do you have the vin number stamped on the frame anywhere. I Stamped mine on my frame and I had a new data plate made at an engraving shop that I put on my cab. Normally on an out of state ***le you have to have an officer come out and verify the vin number, there is a form that you can get from the DMV office for this. For the odometer reading I think you have to get a form that states the mileage is unknown..... Or you can just go down and get historic plates and you only need the vin number verified to transfer an out of state ***le to a Missouri ***le. You call the business office of your local police force and they will schedule a time when an officer will come by... don't call 911

    Just get it ***led without getting plates. I lived in Missouri for most of my life. If it's not ready for inspection, don't worry about the tags. That will at least keep you from incurring any late fees for ***ling. When it's ready for for the road, then get the tags. As for the odometer, (unless they've changed things) your car would be exempt from mileage requirements due to its age. License the car as an antique and it lets you slide by with a lot of stuff. Hope that helps. One thing you can do is try to contact the Rod-Tiques club in KC. They should be able to walk you through all that. They've been around forever up there.

    You don't need to do any of that ****. Take the ***le, proof of insurance and your copy of your paid personal taxes and get historic plates. No inspection of any kind and you never need to buy plates again. It cost me 26.00 for everything. Since I live in Jefferson City (state capital) I went directly to the Truman Bldg. You can also run year of build plates for an extra 10.00

  5. I second what Binderrod said. Do the historic plate deal and your home free.

    If it has an out of stae ***le you WILL nedd whats called an ID/OD. it is basically VIN verification. Any state inspection facility can do that. But there must be legible numbers to compare the ***le to. I do suggest stamping the frame or get a new tag, so the inspector can read it. Then take that form, and the original ***le that you have from IA, and just tell them it is a project vehicle, and not finished, that you just want to pay your MO taxes on it and get it changed to a MO ***le. That is all to changing the ***le. To lisence it, you will need proof of ins, personal property tax reciepts, and you check book for historic plates, For regular plates it must p*** a MO vehicle safety inspection as well. This is all you have to do. just have everything ready and say yes Maam, no Maam, etc.

    I bought a 78 amx from a friend in Iowa. I went to the licence bereau and got a mo. ***le. Took two tries I had to get the right person, the first try the girl told me I had to get it inspected..........
    The second time I got an older man that I was able to explain I wanted a ***le only.
    After I got the Mo. ***le I sent in to Jeff City for Historic Plates.

    proof of insurance, tille and twenty five dollars and 25 cents
