I just bought by project yesterday. A 1962 Buick Invicta Wagon. Im picking it up Friday morning. Its all original and has been parked for 15 years in a garage since the original owner died. Ill upload some cell phone pics tonight and snap some better ones when I clean it up. One question. What engine/****** would it have. The owners son says it the smaller v8. Is that the 301? How can I tell? I think its a powerglide, but Im not sure. The interier is freaking nice. Exterior is good, only minor rust in a few small spots. I cant wait till friday!
I believe a full size 62 Buick only came with a 401, the horsepower depends on 2 or 4 bbl carb and compression. The trans would have been a dynaflow. I think the 4 bbl engine was rated at 325 hp and the 2 bbl at 265hp.
Sweet. I guess by saying its the smaller v8 he meant its not a 455. I kicked myself for not getting the vin before I left. Do yall know of any ways to quickly ID the engine for sure? Any stamping somewhere on the block that designate that its a 401? Thanks
Well, your engine question piqued my curiosity, so I did some digging. All I could find is that the '62 Invicta's all came with a 401 and a Dynaflow transmission. I'd give you the links, but I'm on my brother's Mac, and it's a real piece of ****. Why does everything have to be so complicated?
Let's try it again: http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/default.aspx?carID=14558&i=2#menu http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z14558/Buick-Invicta-Series-4600.aspx http://www.carnut.com/specs/gen/buick60.html
Oh, and if you haven't already you should join up with the Buick HAMBers and the Buick Nailheads groups. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=169 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=266
LOL - I love the pic of the old man counting the cash... he's probably thinking... " I can't believe that kid gave me this much for that ol' pile..." you on the other hand are probably thinking... "I can't believe he took that little for that sweet *** car..." Good find.
Only one standard motor in the Invicta, 401 with a 4bbl. You could probably step down to one of the two-barrel motors, there was a standard high compression 2bbl 401 standard in the LeSabre and a lower compression 2bbl 401 as an option, probably an "economy" motor and replacing the 364. The aluminum V8 only came in the Skylark and Special. No specific location is given for the block code stamp. Trans should still be a dynaflow, not a powerglide. Invicta was a mid-range model, more upscale than the LeSabre but not high end like the Electra 225. They made 4,617 8p wagons and 9,131 6p wagons.
Awesome car little brother! Now we just have to figure out what to do to make it cooler. I'm thinking lowering it, installing some chrome reverse wheels with spider caps, and some thin whitewalls. Maybe some bellflower exhaust tips and some lace on the roof.
I plan on a clean two tone paint job. Gotta do somethign about the wheel. Chrome reverse sounds good. I dont know yalls take on airbags. Ive seen plenty of opposition to it, but I think itd be best for my situation. I need to be able to daily it, then slam it and cruise! Other than that, Ill just clean it up. paint something similar to this: http://images.google.com/imgres?img...es?q=1962+buick+invicta+wagon&hl=en&sa=N&um=1 That may be a little too weak still, but you get my point. I just gotta get rid of the whitewash. Everyone Ive shown a picture of it to has called it the ghost busters car. I wanted to kick em in the nuts, but i guess some color would work instead.
One more thing. What would the bolt pattern be? We gotta get it to the house with a tow dolly and I got some wheels from my dads car that may work. 5x4-3/4? Also what rearend is it? I dont recognize it. Its huge. Bolts on front.
Yea, I think your right. Now if only I could find some spare wheels to get it home. Would a base model 69 nova have the same bolt pattern?
No, 5 lug full size chevy trucks are the same (1972 to 1998) whats wrong with the ones on it just to get it home?
Damn! Theyre biasply tires that have severe dry rot. Its only about a 20 mile haul, but I dont think theyll hold up. The rubber seams to be separated from the belts already. Oh, my friend's dad's car is a late 80s early 90s caprice. It should work.
