Top Chop Sunday I I couple of weeks ago we had a small get together . The Top chop was performed by Kalis who is the owner of Sala Speed Shop. Wellsville planed the chopping and showed where the cuts should be made. Here you se how its done: Kalis makes the first cut! 2 inches is removed from the straight part of the A-pillar
There are several layers of sheet metal where the roof meets the C-pillar, it takes time to make all the necessary cuts. The roof is removed A Porto Power is used to pull the A-pillars to align, the outside of the pillars are spot welded together. Spot weld on the outside of the A-pillar. Here you also se the cut made to let the windshield tilt down
The windshield is test fitted, the gaps are covered by the rubber channel and the moulding will make it look like stock. In the lower part where the windshield is tilted down the channel will be cut and glued to the windshield. The rear window and its frame are kept uncut, the frame and window are pushed forward, and the roof skin is shortened. Looks good?
Thank you for the pics...I may have to try that one of these days! So the windshield stays stock just tilted back?
Although I hate to see a 60 Cadillac coupe chopped, it looks like you guys did a good job. Just not my cup of tea.
My first thought when I saw the cuts being made was "you'll never get gl*** to fit in there again" but I see that you pulled it off quite well. I would like to see what it looks like with window rubber/trim installed and side gl*** in place. If you can pull that off I will be impressed.
Looks great, but judging by the ***le of the thread, I thought you were going to tell us how to buy a top for a '60 Caddy.
Looks like a clean chop but man I just can't get in to MOST chopped caddies, particular 60's caddies. Such a long low car to start with.
