    Hey,
I'm helping my brother-in-law by filling up the water trough for the sheep and I noticed this beauty hanging around the silo. sorry, about the quality, it's from the camera phone. I'm gonna have to see if I can get dibs on this truck. I think this is mid-40's vintage IH model K 8.5

Yes, it' on his farm, it's solid but the wheels are split rim and it's buried pretty well. I tried looking up some info on this truck on the internet-not much around. I dig the grill too! I noticed all the brightwork looked pretty darn good for being out in the open. It was worth the tripping over the electric fence (color-blind) and sticking myself on the barbed wire to see this PU.

i can honestly say that probably 90% of us knuckleheads on here have either crawled under, tripped over, climbed onto, not to mention bruised, cut, banged, slipped, and every other concievable scenario to get a glimpse of something shiney we saw sticking out of something! cool truck by the way.

International Harvesters were never ever considered as a starting point for a traditional hotrod

I know it's not traditional, I like it and I think it's cool and that's all that matters! I've changed over the years when I was younger it was the Deuce and then the '40 ford, the '49 merc and then the '54 chev. I've gotten to the point that anything old can can be cool!

That maybe true but those trucks in the day were the backbone of farming and constuction and I am sure a many a young boy got whupped
for racing dads truck or doing cookies in a field.Alot of people could barely
afford a vehicle and these trucks were their pride and joy
A "traditional" hotrod? well no,but a cool truck and hotrod start YES!

Looks like a really solid truck, the KB series was built in 1947-1949, the KB-5 is a 1.5 ton truck, but the cab, hood grill, hood are the same as the smaller pickups.

Yeah, and in the future, would you guys please get your vehicles approved by the "Traditional Hot Rod Committee", before presenting it as possible hot rod material........ :D

I guess anything goes with the traditional crowd as long as it's not a rat rod (whatever that means...).

  24. I always thought the K series Haybalers were nice looking trucks. They were living proof that any engine can pull any load if you gear it low enough. As far as not being traditional, buy that Haybaler and start a new tradition. What is traditional now was innovative 50-60 years ago.

It is a KB-5 1.5 ton. KB's had the grill run over in the fenders K' did not. K's were made from 1941 through 1946 the KB's 1947 through part 1949. the KB's had a little more stainless steel trim. you can get all the cab parts and most other for the rest of the truck. the cab on the 1-2-3-5 is shorter than the 6-7-8-10-11-12-14. the bigger trucks were about 4 or5 in. taller. i have a 48 cab on a 71 IH frame with a 462 cu. in. pontiac engine 350 tran. dana 44 rear shop made pickup bed KB-12 grill ever thing set back 2.5 FT. 1/4 mile time 12.02. top speed 135. it handle's like a race car. straight axle from is from the 71 1110 IH. i lower the spring by taking them apart pressing the leafs flat and turning the top leaf over. it lower the front 8 in. i am 62 years old been a mechanic all my life. started in a chevy. dealer in 1963. you can call me@ 859 339 0489 i will tell you where to get parts or help you in any way. cab part are not high at all. good luck.
