ok, i thought thats what you got claiming new. still, shouldnt have to hold yer good parts back due to a trust issue, that really stinks.... hopefully it at least works well

I also paid for a new cap, that's the other problem, I should have gotten both back, just like I paid for a completely different vintage base I should have two now. Even with Hunt every part even the junk that gets replaced is usually returned.

My problems with the magneto itself are mostly cosmetic and value issues, I'm still hopeful it works as it should. Even at that my main problem with it is the fact they completely devalued my vintage magneto hacking it up this way. There is significant price difference in an early 60's and older mag to any average swapmeet score or new -old Frankenstein. The fact I sought out a correct part, and paid the difference just to have someone ruin it just burns me. The average guy who doesn't care enough to know the difference or find it important wouldn't mind at all. This isn't for a pulling truck or a Saturday night special though. For me its like touching up an all original Corvette with urethane paint and thinking the owner should be fine with it.

Well this is what I got in the mail today July 1st from my talk with Roger on June 10th.... UPS shipment, signature required for two tags in poor condition, one of which actually looks like it has teeth marks on it from a dog and neither is from the mag I sent in.

They did include two rivets to install them, I have to say that was nice of them.

I also got an old one back,
a bit worn and scarred from it's removal
but to me it's better looking than the new style they put on it.

If you have trouble finding someone to rebuild magnetos. The only guy I use is Tom Cirello in CA (541) 948-0547, He has experience both Cars and Motorcycles.

Have had nothing but great service and quality work from the crew at Joe Hunt. Some weeks ago I had a friend who was in Sacramento for business drop off a vintage Joe Hunt Magneto for the bonneville engine I'm rebuilding. I wanted it rebuildt and an advance put in. They got it done in three days and the job was perfect including putting the old tag back on. The price was reasonable and from a European perspective a bargain...

I called in advance and once during the job to see if they had any further questions. At this time they asked about the tag and what surface I wanted. Great guys! They were even able to tell me that it was purchased new in 1963 and that the latest service they did was in 1966. Where else would you get service like that?

That's for sure...The old camera worked a bit better on shiny objects, this one I'm still messing with.

Man I'm glad yours and Roza 's came back the way you wanted them thats great. Look at the picture I posted of thier past work, from my friends collection.... that is why it went there.....Even if mine is the fluke, and I'm not convinced of that, this still does not make it right.

Something else I noticed is in the information sheets sent with the mag... The Raja ends are recommended by Hunt over the modern ones they sent me in thier own paper work after I paid for them for the vintage set.

So take it with a grain of salt, and make your own call. Facts are facts I got fucked plain and simple. Hopefully someone else will have better luck.

Sent this to French Grimes - did everything just as we wanted - converted a SBC mag for our flatty - reversed direction, etc. works awesome the first time and ever time...

That would be my Uncle French. When I came across this post and saw the dissapointing service people received from Hunt it made me honestly sad.
French is for the most part a one man operation and treats everyones property with respect. I have watched him overhaul and test mags for people while they wait several times. He is the person Vertex refers customers to when they cant fix a mag and he has even patented his own mags now. There are more than a couple guys on this board with his mags in their motors. If anyone needs help with their mag I would definitely give him a call.

I have four mags. I live in Ohio and send mine to Pat Mason in Pennsylvania. At one time Pat worked for Vertex, and he has many years, maybe decades under his belt. I have had great service from his one man shop. I do some of my own mag work, like change out the advance weights that create the total timing. Never had a id plate removed or any issue that wasn't resolved with quick a phone call. His business is Mason Racing Ignitions, his phone number is 610-287-1511. I have been using mags for years.

I had my BBF ronco repaired at this dude in texas. Put a new bronze gear , set it to the right height and redrilled for a bigger chevy pin, and even sent my 2 extra pins, very nice guy, only does C.O.D. though. Took about a week and 120 bucks. Very pleased with his service.
