I have some question about the drive shaft and diff. I will be pulling the straight 8 and hydromatic and dropping in the 425 with a cadillac th-400. The car has the 3.08 diff and i would like to keep it in there if possible. What my question is, what needs to be done to the drive shaft to make it mate up to the th-400. I assume all the work to the drive shaft would need to be done at a driveline shop. If i cant of should'nt keep the pumpkin on the car i have access to a 10 bolt out of a 68 camero, with 3.08 gears but i really would just use it for the housing and switch the gears out, only if its the right width.
None of the 10 bolt stuff will fit in the 53 housing if that is what you are asking. If you want to use the Camaro pieces you have to swap the whole rear end, drum to drum. As for the driveshaft situation I'd take car and the two driveshafts if you have both to the local driveshaft shaft and let them either swap pieces or build a new driveshaft.
Just have the d-shaft shop make the drive shaft the right length, measure the center to center of where the u-joints are and allow enough slip on the trans yoke for suspension travel w/the car at standing still (level) height.
thanks guys, i know the 10 bolt stuff wont swap. i would drop the whole rear. I think I'll have the driveline work done rather than switch rears.
