I have been researching as many threads as I can on here to see if anyone has any input to what is causing my 8ba to die when the gas is pressed to the floor at a quick pace. so far I have addressed all potential causes such as vacuum advance, float level, and bad gas. to check the vacuum advance I removed the line from the carb and when I blew on the line the peice in the distributor move. I read a post on here that holley 94 floats should be adjusted to 1 3/8 inch and that did not seem to solve the issue. I removed the bowl off of the pump and no water or anything eles stopping the flow of fuel. Can someone offer some insight on this problem?? I really want to drive this thing this summer and this is the only thing keeping me from spending money on the steering and exhaust to do so. thanks in advance!!!
Normally I would check the accelerator pump in the carb(s) given that description of a problem. Probably worn out.
94 accellerator links can get loose and pop out of the holes. The usual cure was a new one, but I'm not sure if they're available nowadays.
you using a ford O/Drive ******? sometimes when you step down on the 'kickdown' ****on it kills the engine....can't remember why...short or open wire or something...haven't experienced it in about a jillion years. I'm just offering this solution because it might NOT be the accelerator pump....but then again....you might not be running an overdrive ******.... dj
Take the carb off, soak it in carb cleaner, replace acc. pump. check and see if throtle springs are worn too. How is your fuel/air mixture?
so I had an extra acc pump and spring, replaced it and no help. How will I be able to check the correct functionality of this acc pump? It idles great so i guess that the air fuel mixture is ok.
Well, you take off the air cleaner, look into the carb and rotate the valve lever where the accelerator rod is connected. If you see a spray of gas, you are in business. If you don't see a spray of gas, you are in for more work If you have a pump oil can put a little gas in it, and try the hole thing again , spraying a little gas in the carb. Or use a little starter fluid to see if it keeps running after you open the throttle. traderjack
as the guy said in "two lane blacktop" "must be the jets". seriously though, my flathead race car was doing this and i bought several larger jet sizes and changed them until it stopped doing this.
FYI: Contact Bubba, he's rebuilding a ton of 94's...and the power valve is what was wrong on mine...doing the same thing... See this thread...call or PM Him.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=2526
So I drove it down the road for the first time today and the hesitation/stall has dramatically gotten smaller. I just rebuilt the carb with a speedway rebuild kit. I have read on here the power valve that is supplied with that particular kit is wrong and the acc pump seems cheap compared to the stock one with the unit. I still believe there is an issue with the Acc pump but will address it later. I did notice that the more the engine warms it seems to go away. So unless anyone has any other ideas I now that it runs ALOT better I will be purchasing some lowering springs and following the tech article that has step by step instructions on getting it going. thanks to all who threw out ideas to help me!!!!
