    1. cut a small wedge out of the center of the straight bar, bend it to a peak, weld, then cut and rebend the rest straight to match the pattern of the grille opening, rechrome....

    2. find a different center for your bar - either for the whole thing, or just to replace between the oval housings...

3 reshape the peaked grille opening to be straight to match the center bar

Yeah, I know, not really helpful....

  3. I think what your problem is, is not the floating grill its the surrounding grill trims, your drawing attention to them when they are not the nicest styling. I think it would work better if you made the two vertical ends go out on an angle, kinda like sweeping under the headlights, and got rid of the 'bottom lip' feature in the lower trim. I really like the insert your going with by the way, it just does not flow with the rest. You could also just ditch the trim bits and put a nice radius where the trim was and use the floating grill as you have it....that would look good.
    Does that make any sense?

  4. All those thoughts have gone through my mind, i'm trying to do it with the least amout of work possable as i want to get it on the road, then in the winter i will redo it. i had thought of making a radiused opening for it and loosing most of the peak.

I'd cut the peak out of the bottom bar, and make it straight. Do you have any other angle pics to give a little better view?

  6. Just be careful if your going to reshape the top trim lip, as it will look strange or not match your hood.

  7. Then take all the surround trim off and run with the floater.......again watch hood mating features.

  9. I just hacked the stock grill out to use the surround, not to sure if i like it. stock opening is ugly and square.

  16. Is the bottom of yours straight across or does it have a slight v in it?

It would definitely be easier to make the grill fit the opening as davidvillajr said, but you are right, that opening is ugly. maybe change the square ends to something more rounded and make the grill match the upper and lower opening trim would be the most pleasing without changing the entire front end.
But, if your just trying to get it on the road leave it out for now and work on the grill part. That way this winter your half way there!
