235 split manifold and exhaust

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hb32, Jul 6, 2009.

  1. In the process of putting a split manifold and dual exhaust on my 55 Chevy truck. Anybody recommend a good place on the lower mainland B.C. to get the pipes bent for a reasonable cost? Had quotes today from $400-$550 for labor and 3 sticks of 2 inch...:eek::eek:

    I'd go smaller than 2"

  3. Smithy`s are 2 inch so that was the reasoning. Why smaller?

The put the duals on my 57 pickup with the split manifold 235 cost me about 400-500 I supplied the gl*** packs.
pm where you are I'd love to see your truck.

I used 2" gl***packs but I used 1 3/4" pipe. Smaller pipe on an inliner sounds wicked. Can't go wrong just under 2 inches.

Torque, the 2" duals are alright for a V8 about 100cid larger than the 235. To large of a pipe will hurt the bottom end power.

  8. After some fighting with the manifolds and tweaking them to fit, took the truck to Midas on 104th and KG this morning for the pipes. Busy place and took 4 hours but an excellent job by Gary and came out with $100 in my jeans then the original estimate. Really changes the sound of the truck and very happy with the effort. Next on the mod list are the dual Carter W1`s after I finish rebuilding them.

  10. I decided to go 2 inch all the way even though there were some comments against.

Once again the Zman is dead on....a two inch pipe will kill the bottom end torque of the 235. Yes , I know what I'm talking about, I've made a living doing this **** for 32 years. But then it aint my car... so do what you want .. I would

My '53 has later Fentons with the built in heat riser, and 2" pipe from stem to stearn with Walker gl***packs.....no low end torque problems here.

  15. I actually am happy with the results, not racing and have noticed an improved change.
