Not available yet as a crate engine, the new 'Hemi' is bound to hit the scrapyard sooner or later? Somebody, somewhere WILL total a 2003-2004 Pickup... I'm willing to bet boneyards already have 'wish lists' from eager hot rodders. Or did somebody already stuff a '32 with this powerplant? The question remains, can it be made to look good???
i know someone with a 2004 pickup with a hemi , and knowing her past driving record...it will soon be available
i have already seen a few in yards. in fact i just ordered one for a guy in chicago for a dearborn deuce. it was a complete pullout with trans for 4600.00 and was out of a 04 truck with 2k.
[ QUOTE ] in fact i just ordered one for a guy in chicago for a dearborn deuce [/ QUOTE ] That's just what I had in mind... Short of going for the 'real' thing (IF you can find one) and for considerably less money, a Dearborn Deuce with a new Hemi would make for a nice package...
Hey Rick if you want a "hemi" that is available right now, check out a 4- valve Modular Ford. They are now everywhere, the aftermarket is in overdrive building go-fast parts for 'em, and they can be made to look good too. Check out www.sullivanperformance.com for example.
It would be relatively easy for example to build a 6- carb "log" manifold since this engine has a dry valley area and near vertical intake ports. Also these Ford Modulars are short in length which might be an easy fit in the `32 Ford engine bay you mentioned.
Springfield NSRA meet this past May had a Dodge 4dr streetrod with the new Hemi in it. No attempt made to clean it up other than the guy had polished and/or chromed all the metal pieces. Looked very odd, I must say. Probably went like stink though. Only older vehicle I've seen with one in there so far. I didn't take pics, and I didn't look very hard, other than to figure out what it was and confirm the engine choice.

A buddy of mine in Saskatchewan here just picked up an 04 one out of a totalled pickup to use in his 34 Mopar coupe. The way the general public drives there should be one available at a boneyard near you as we speak. Nutz
While we are on the subject, some info on the new "Hemi" 5.7L: The Hemi design combustion chamber is one of the poorest designs for emissions - why do you think it took so long to get it into production? It almost did NOT make emissions test requirements even with the modifications. NOx is the problem due to the cool temp flame front inherent in the design (also why it builds so much torque). There is also a little problem called "flame quench" (which causes additional NOx) with a true Hemi design, as was used on the V16 aircraft engine and the automotive engines produced in the 1950s. Today's Hemi head design is not a true hemispherical head, (but looks vaguely like a hemispherical head with parts filled in.) A cool coincidence; The actual production engine came in at 345 c.i.d. @ 345 hp, the exact same specs as the '57 DeSoto Adventurer 345/345 Hemi, the first standard engine to make the 1hp/ci mark.

I have a friend who wants to sell a new Hemi crate motor. Includes air cond. compressor, alt, PS pump and engine harness $3500. He offered it on ebay and it only brought $3100. Contact me if you are interested and I will send you his email.
Hey Rick! Are you thinking about buying that Plymouth Coupe in Gaspesie and stuffing a new hemi in it. That would be one nice Mopar terror! As for finding that Hemi, I'd check with RTA (yes, the junk yard). I wouldn't be surprised if they already had one or get one soon. Last time I was there, they had lots of recent motors. I heard that they buy many wrecked cars from the States. If Americans keep driving like they do, we'll get lots of Hemis around here
They're out there for sure- I've 'accquired' one for future use in my 47-been searching pretty intently for a harness and pcm lately but they're a little tough-I found one yesterday but the whole thing was sold as a drop out-needy truck had an engine fire so the harness and pcm was spoken for. There is a company out there called Street&Performance- www.hotrodlane.cc thats providing customers with all the necessary wiring etc. for around 1K...
