So i am about to purchase a 31 5 window for cheap and it is pretty solid to me. It is all apart but has everything including 2 engines and 2 trannys. Anyways I will be builing and rat so a lot of the parts i will not use such as fenders, running boards, engines and trannys, rear end etc can some one through me a rough idea of what those things may be worth.. I am fairly new to the model a's since i have only been around muscle cars thanks to the old man. Thanks and any input would be great
first off... don't call it a 5 window. makes you sound like a rookie. second the rat panties in a bunch club has been notified and will be here shortly
Welcome aboard. It sounds like you want to build an ol' school hot rod. You know that scene in the movie Ghost, when those shadowy demon spirits came moanin' out of the ground when a bad guy died ... a similar thing happens here when the word "rat" is used in any way other than referring to a rodent. Just tryin' to save you, man. As for the worth of the fenders & runnin' boards & such, a lot would depend on their condition. You might try checkin' prices on eBay and on the classified section of this site. Sometimes that can be helpful. Regarding the engines & transmissions, the same thing applies. A lot depends on the type (original or later types, desirabilty, etc.) and their condition. I hope this helps get you started. Good luck with your project.
You have pictures? The left over parts will have some value for sure. All depends on how nice they are. Build what you want but remember the rat thing will be over someday. the traditional thing will never be over.
I may be one of the ratpantiesinabunchers ... and definietly will be if you destroy a "solid" Model A coupe to make a ratrod abortion ... now, make a traditional hotrod on the other hand and I will be eternally jealous. There are so many examples of KILLER Model As around here done right there's no excues not to be inspired. THe classifieds is a good way to sell your unwanted parts. As far as the engines and trannys go, you might try the Ford Barn website, but to the best of my kowledge, there isn't a huge call for them. Welcome to the HAMB. Let's see some pics!
I am building a 30 Tudor hot rod. I cruise my local craigslist for parts daily, and I am sure builders in your area do too. I picked up a full set of steel 30 fenders for my car from someone doing just what you are for 200 bucks and 10 months later, I still feel like I won the lottery. Your steel splash aprons, fenders, running boards, hood, and other parts it sounds like you don't want can easily find homes to others looking for a deal. Let me know if you find a way to offload the rear end in a way where the selling price is more then the shipping. Model A running gear isn't something I see move very often over here on the east coast.
