Getting ready to order a 32 av8 frame from Kiwi Konnection for my coupe and was curious what this is considered when they chop the front Frame Hornes off? Like on the cars below
bobbed. i think those frames may have been pinched too, though. i had to pinch my deuce frame so that they ended being the radiator shell rather than on the sides.
more so this frame? is the frame brought in so the frame horns even though cut off do not show on each side of the grill I'd like to see the chasi without the body and hood on it to get an idea or just know what the proper term is to ask for when ordering a frame
Check the Rolling Bones web site. They built the type frame in the above pictures which was their version of Doan Spencers '32 chassis. The FOGGER
That one appears to be Bobbed and Pinched. Show the picture to Kiwi and tell them what you have in mind and they will do the right thing.
ya i thought it was called pinched but wasnt sure. Im goin to head up there and talk to duane about it and what direction i wanna go with the coupe. Appreciate it guys.
i have a kiwi frame under my 1930 sedan. i bought just the rails, pinched, and built my own crossmembers. i had to pinch the frame even further to fit the rails behind my 1929 grill shell. this will be hard if the front crossmember is already installed. it will probably be a special order. *Note, the flages for the radiator mount off the bottom sides. if the framerails are not on the outside, you will need to find a new way to mount your radiator.
the rb dudes run the spring behind the axle. keep in mind a pinched frame like that adds issues... shock mounts, headlight mounts. Can get real tight for exhaust and steering. just things to think about.
Theres a LOT more going on with that particular frame setup than just a basic Pinch and Bob. The wheelbase is altered...the crossmember relocated...the front shock style and positioning is specific to that frame...etc. I really feel that if your gonna order a frame and hope to successfully copy this style you need to go to the source: Rolling Bones.
agreed ive looked into it more.... probably just go with a standard av8 highboy frame cause the rolling bones are a tad out of my area
The Rolling Bones definitely do it right. It's kinda cool to open a thread and see a photo that I took. The second photo on your originial post is one that I took of the "Sisters" on the salt at 2007 Speedweek. I always intended to P'Shop out the modern tin from the background. You can grab the high res version from here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/designit/1119159830/in/set-72157601439601288/ You're definitely following in the right tire tracks if you're looking at the Rolling Bones' frame work.
This is my old roadster, it's now in good hands elsewhere. The frame horns are cut off and the frame is pinched in to follow the shape of the hood. I think I have some pictures from the frame I built for my coupe (I built it the same way).
Also look at the Doane Spencer roadster - pretty much the original version of this style of frame. Not saying you shouldn't go to the Rolling Bones or anyone else, but there are how-to's in several little books and plenty of people around here have built frames this way. It isn't hard to figure out and you can do this yourself. My old modified was set up the same way, and the coupe I am building is too.
