I picked up my 1938 Ford Coupe in March of this year. I purchased it from the a guy in Dallas who owned the Coupe since the early 1960's. He rebuilt the ch***is in 1980, put in a later Flathead, and slapped some paint on the body. He had a kiddo in 1981, and it has been untouched since then. There are two dime size rust holes in the trunk, but the rest of the body is super clean. All of the parts have been accounted for. I want to get it up and running before I decide what direction to go with this one. I plan to attack this one after I finish my 50 Chevy truck. I am excited, but want to finish my current project first.
Thanks guys. I feel I was lucky to find such a clean 71 year old Coupe! I think a little wet sanding will do the trick when I get ready to get it up and running for the time being I REALLY dig Ryan's coupe... I also like this one too...
Congrats on the coupe!! if you dont mind me asking... whatd you pay for it? a buddy of mine just told me his family has a 38 that his deceased grandpa owned and they want to get rid of it... Im just looking for a ball park of what i should offer him and not be offensive
great looking car. congratulations. its got to be hard to to focus on your truck with that coupe sitting around.
This is always a fun question, but I will give it a shot. I looked at 35-40 coups for many months trying to find the right project with little rust. I think a good range for a rust free (or minimal rust) project coupe in complete condition ranges from 3k-8k. I got mine on the lower end of the range, and feel like I got a heck of a deal. At the end of the day it depends on what it is worth to you. I have wanted a coupe for some time, so the right one was justifiable at its purchase price.
Thanks guys. Each of you have NICE coupes, and hopefully mine will turn out as nice once I get to working on it
I've got Harrison's old '38 so I'm with you as far as them being cool. I had a small problem with the ignition but since getting it sorted out I can't stop driving it. Be sure to keep us updated once you start ot make it your own. BTW, Ryan's is the benchmark for a cool '38. I've got future plans for mine that include a serious HP infusion and a ch***is update but for now it's getting driven while I catch up with other things. Frank
