Hi, my name is Jamie & I'm a proud owner of a '63 Ford Falcon Futura & member of the Hell's Belles Car Club SF. My dad is Jimmy of Jimmy's Old Car Picnic. I'd like to make a request of our friends in Northern CA and especially the SF Bay Area who attend our picnic. (THIS SUNDAY, 10/10! check out http://juxtapoz.com/html/oldcar.html for a printable flier.)
Thank you for supporting Jimmy's Annual Old Car Picnic over the past 16 years! We have a small and dedicated staff who works hard to keep the picnic running smoothly and to keep it fun for everyone. We also work hard to be able to donate as much money as possible every year to the SF Park & Rec Dept's programs for the developmentally disabled.
This year we were told by the SFPD that we need to hire (and pay for) four uniformed police officers to patrol the picnic because of rumors that it was "getting out of hand". Anyone who has attended the picnic can tell you otherwise—other than the occasional disruption, it's been a mellow and family-friendly event since the beginning. Despite us bringing up these points, the SFPD was not sympathetic. We need to hire these officers or risk being shut down and/or penalized. Instead of being able to give a larger donation to developmentally disabled people, we must hire these officers for thousands of dollars.
We are asking our friends and community for their continuing respect and support this year. We are asking people not to spin their tires on the lawn, do burnouts, fight, or do things that can risk the future of the picnic. If actions like these take place, the people responsible will be asked to leave, may be arrested, and it could ruin the picnic for everyone. We'd like to show the SF Park & Rec Dept and the SFPD that we are able to police ourselves and in the future, will not require the hiring of so many officers.
Please email us with any questions at jimmyspicnic@juxtapoz.com. Thank you for your help!
    See you Sunday!

  2. man that's too bad to hear that jackasses have to ruin a good thing for everyone else. I saw some idiot burnout bigtime in the grass lawn area at Billetproof toward the end of the show. I don't know if Kirk said it was cool or not, but all I could think of was if the wrong person saw that, Billetproof might would have to move all over again. Stupid. I hope your picnic goes well, and no knuckleheads show up. Have a nice weekend!

I didn't know anything about it but I'd have been pissed if I had seen it. He'd have been banned just like the guy who fucked up last year. That's why we had to pay nearly $1000 for professional security this year. Somehow people don't think about shit.

"This year we were told by the SFPD that we need to hire (and pay for)

    and

"we must hire these officers for thousands of dollars."

Cops make $500+ a day..??? That's totally insane..!!!!

  10. When events are the size that they need to hire cops, they should end. And, last time I checked, burnouts are what separated US from Those dorks. Ask Ryan.

Nah, we're not going to throw in the towel just yet.... we'll deal with whatever's thrown our way....(I think the cops are being paid so much because it's overtime pay!)

  12. Time to change venues. We ran into a situation that the mayor of Mission wanted us to charge more for the cars coming into the park we already paid to rent from the city. He also wanted to set a fee for the public. The park already got 25% of the gate plus 15% off the vendors. We asked him how much he wanted to charge so we could decide if it would be in Mission or another city the next year. He backed down. Politicians suck. They tend to get too greedy. Nutz.
