Not to hi-jack Dru & the gang's thread (apologies in advance), but yup, I've been driving her, and Lux is workin' on her exhaust system right now as we speak, so I don't die while I drive her. . .:p

And you, my beloved Fish Tank, would know that if you ever came out to the D & D :p;):D

You may now return to your regularly scheduled program. . .

Here she is,....laid out. Got some measurements for shocks and need to head down to the parts store and flip thru the books to find the right numbers. Its gonna take some fabricating...the original 4 link was from an S10 and the arms are waaay too short. On top of that, whoever built them measured and built them made one side about 3/4 of an inch longer than the other side. Back to the drawing boards....worse case scenario Bennie is gonna run the leaf springs until we can do some mad fabricatin' and get it built the correct way.

It will be nice to drive it at this height without bottoming out on asphalt imperfections. Its a shame this car doesnt get more attention than it does. I love the profile and simple mods that have been completed so far. I think most people just dont know what it is.

the stance on that car is spot on,,,,,im pretty sure it'll get lots of attention now,,i love the fact its a pretty uncommon car to customize,,,,different is good,,,,you guys continue to amaze me with your builds,,,,,

  9. This looks great! I have seen a few Mopar customs over the years and for some reason most of are over done and ugly, I think that these cars have some real nice lines and with a little m***aging they are very cool, Bennie has a good eye, everything works well together. good Job.
And oh yeah I also know a guy that can get those shirts done for ya.. not "cheap" but quality, as is befitting your club...
you guys rock so much we're going to start calling you the cavemen...

  12. The wagon might get some drop spindles this winter if I get a job...thats it..
the '32 Roger and I have some different ideas there...
the '59 is certainly a good candidate..you know I've always wanted to build a hot rod Good Humor truck,

Yeah Buzznut we're a go big or go home kind of group lol..... Just kiddin' I think we all have that fear of getting a little further into the build and going "Damn I knew I should have made those notches a little taller!" As for cutting stuff up Drew, Pops wagon is WAAYYYY to nice to cut up like he said maybe a little drop and that's all she needs. Those cars were so pretty stock that they don't need much. The '32 well were not sure about that one but knowing Jim and I, I'm sure it's going to have a strong 60's vibe. Now the '59 I'm sure Jim would be more than happy to cut that ****er up! Think Mooneyes truck and you're close! Later fellas. Rog

Thanks for the compliments guys. We decided to hold off on the airride for now because we have a pretty cool setup in mind and it is going to take some late night fabricating. We really want to do it the right way. I want to thank my buddy Casey(ratboy) and Levi(evil1) for the help so far.

Me and Dru had a long talk about this car and I think when I get the body work all tuned in and some shiny or semi-shiny paint and the interior done it might turn some heads even though its not a car that most people tend to customize.

I'm really going for some subtle changes and I tend to lean towards the less is more thing. Anyways thanks for the compliments.

Levi you cutting the stuff out with the plasma was a huge help. The giving us a hardtime.....not so much of a help.

The orca betty line was just low! Thanks

Back at it on Bennies car. Here is the finished notch....

    and the other side....

Bennie and Led cut out some shock brackets and drilled them for the bolts. After getting the backets made they were welded to the axle.

    Welded to the axle...

Once the bottom mounts were in place, Led compressed the shocks by hand to get them in place for the top brackets. Those are some stiff shocks and should help the back of this beast ride pretty smooth with most of the leafs taken out.

    Looks good...final product.

Led finished up the other side the same way as the first side.

The final test...Bennie, Led, and Rog all stood on the bumper and gave her a bump or two. Plenty of travel and the shocks arent gonna bottom out in their current configuration.

TOMORROW: The fuel tank goes back in and some new fuel lines get ran. After that its a matter of hooking up the front bags and this thing should be on the road by FRIDAY.

    Not too bad....from this.....

to this.......all in about 2 weeks of work, a few hours at a time.

I have a question for you guys since you obviously know what you're doing. I have the C notches that you can order for the 55-59 pickups from Brothers or Impala Bobs... Hang on, I'll go take a pic...

Ok, there it is. So, it's only one sided like the frame on these trucks is, but it does have a top and a bottom. What is the best method for installing these. I noticed that you guys do it the most sensible way by tacking and welding before you cut the original frame, but I obviously can't do that here. Any ideas?

  21. Good job guys....the notch turned out super clean. Keep going...it's too hot to sleep anyway!

Thanks Bryan I spent alittle time checking your older threads before we started this one. I think they came out pretty good, my buddy Casey doesn't like the way the shock mounts came out so we'll probably be redoing those when we do the airride.

Buzznut do those fit over the existing frame after you notch it? We did acouple of notches similar to that on some late model Chevy trucks but they were bolt on. We just put the truck up on jackstands so it was completely level, put acouple of braces across and in an X between frame rails, marked it, cut it out and slipped the notch over the frame. those were bolt on so we had to drill out the frame once it was on but yours looks like it is going to need to be welded on.

These are weld-in...which I prefer over a few bolts. My though, and tell me if I'm wrong here, is that I take all load off the frame and then notch the bottom if the frame ONLY (not the side yet) so the part where you see the relief in the photo will slide into place. Then slip this OVER the frame, but slip it on from the inside so essentially the frame becomes boxed at this location and has two layers of steel on the top and the bottom. I then weld the C-notch into place, and THEN cut the mirror of that bottom notch on the outside/vertical wall of the original frame to match the C-notch and then weld the two sides (the original frame and the new notch) together at that point. Am I making sense here? I could draw a diagram if that would help...

Yeah that sounds like the way to go. I see what you are saying. I didn't realize that the notch was able to fit into the frame rail. The bolt on notches slide on from the outside. The way you described sounds like the best way to do it.

I'd agree with Bennie on this one....its hard to say with out being able to actually take the piece in hand and eyeball the frame, too. I think the way you described it though would work pretty well. Like mentioned (and as learned in the truck notch) brace it, brace it, brace it. and after you brace it, brace it.

Here it is....fuel line time. Bennie had been running a rubber hose from tank to carb and decided it was time to make a permanent change while everything was apart. He ordered up a SUMMIT steel 3/8ths steel line and Roger got to work.

Roger re-thought volunteering to help with this about 20 times but he does really good work and has all the right toys to do it right.

The line came coiled up so the first step was to make it semi-straight before laying it under the car and making some measurements.

I stood on one end to keep it straight while Rog and Bennie worked out all the kinks. A couple of quick measurements and Rog started bending.

Like I said, Roger had the right toys.

This how he spent most of the night....

The jumgle-gym Bennie and Casey built provided Roger lots of fun to bend lines around.

This was interesting....Bennie was pushing on one side and Rog on the other.

My phone died right about here,....got some more photos on Bennies and I will put those up tomorrow. After getting it bent they mounted it with some rubber padded clamps. Tomorrow is set to mount the electric pump and finish up on the carb side.
Bennie should have this thing back on the road by this time tomorrow night.

Damn, the shirt I was wearing tonight is even bright in pictures lol.... Is it traditional to work on a custom in a dayglow green shirt? I found out tonight that I'm not as strong as I used to be, that was the reason for Bennie and I tag teaming the tubing bender. I should have brought my long handled benders but I knew there would not be a lot of room under the car for them but hey we got it done! I noticed I had to jack the car up a little higher than I used to as well lol.... Thanks for the bare gut shot by the way Dru Haha.... All in all the line turned out nice and with a little fine tuning tomarrow Bennie will be set. Later, Rog

Yeah Buzznut, doing fluid lines is not one of my favorite things either. The heavy head syndrome was killin' Bennie and I tonight! Last set I did was for my Mustang and after a few nights flat on my back on my freezing (litteraly) garage floor my desire to plumb cars left me for a while lol... As for your question about the notches for your ride, do the notches you bought fit around the outside of the frame or do they slide inside the frame?
