anybody ever heard of martin senior paints by napa?? New to the paint, have been spoiled by ppg and house of kolor too long! Any feed back helps do's and dont's! Thanks
I had a H-D painted with that, turned out really nice. The guy that did the paint only used the M/S on everything. Everything he did turned out really nice. Of course it is all in the prep.
Martin Senior paint has been around for along time. I know it use to be a good paint. But I haven't used it in a while. My .02
It's "Martin Senour". It's an old brand of auto paint-been around since the '30s at least. It's always been considered top notch but my experience is about 15 years out of date.
That is the house brand for NAPA made by Sherwin-Williams. S-W also sells it as ACME or Western. It's good paint.
I'm a long long ways from a pro but have always had good durability with martin senour. Have heard numerous times you can get the same product for less money under different labels that aren't sold at napa. Which does not suprise me. Good luck
I have used it and found it to be quality paint for the price, especially if you get a good discount from Napa. The clear is really nasty so cover up, wear a good mask. The car in my avatar was painted with it. Mike
i used their high build primer, and i used some of the white on my hood, been really good from what i've seen. i didn't want anything fancy for a car i intend to drive, this is no trailer queen, does anyone know if the unmixed paint goes bad? going to be a while before i finish my car due to economic constraints, quite a while.
I used it years ago, it seemed to be as good as anything else at the time. In fact their laquer was the best I used.
I had a paint contract for that as I was a industreial painter, nice discount, a little on the thin side but with good prep was nice but liked the thick and chewey PPG more
wow, i didn't even know they still made that stuff. i used it many years ago, and it was a pretty decent product back then.
I've actually sprayed with this myself, no problems I noticed, although I wouldn't call myself an expert or anything. After the car was done, I used up the clear on some engine parts I had bead blasted and it's held up fine even where the parts still had some gunk on them. You may not find any fancy candy colors in the line, but if there's a color you like I see no reason not to use it. I've never heard bad about it.
I sell martin senour in spokane washington and it is great product. if you need any help with what product to use please write me and will give all the help i can. the planet color custom line is *****en!!! there are tones of cutom candy colors you should check it out rustynewyorker is a little out of the loop!
I used it on several projects back in the early and mid-80s until I had a problem. Regional paint rep was a real ** and I never got any satisfaction...ended up stripping the car again and redoing the entire job in PPG. The NAPA store was no help either. I've never used MS again. Having said that, a real lightbulb moment came out of it... Automotive refinishing is pure chemistry and requires some specialized knowledge. I no longer buy paint products from anyone who sells brake shoes, alternators, and fan belts. For the hobbiest, IMO we're all safer dealing with people who sell and specialize in automotive paints, period. If you get into a little trouble, the spe******ts can walk you through it...the guy who sells spark plugs can't...
this is painted with all martin senour products about 5 years ago its held up really well, it was my daily driver for most of those years, parked outside. we used the matte clear they offer
It's pretty much all I use. It's the only stuff available in my town, and I've never had a problem. BTW, the local NAPA guy knows nothing about paint at all, but he does know the phone # to the tech dept., and those guys know what they're talking about
Used it for years where I worked and usually on cars for "problem" customers and my own cars, cars that needed that little bit more. Never any problems.
thanks yall for your input. i have painted for a while and never seen it on the west coast, being on the east coast now, shows alot of options and seems to be a decent paint, i have only been spraying solids so far and a couple of metallics, lays down nice and wet and it's extremely affordable, thanks again,
Oh man,I need to return those rocket skates I purchased a while back then if that's the case.Hmmm,if it's cheaper than PPG and holds up well from what I've seen,I think I'll go that route for my paint.Anyone have the product codes and paint chip catalog?
Never mind A-Bomb,I found the link for what they have http://www.martinsenour-autopaint.c...Information/Planet Color/Product-catalog.ashx
I've used it a couple times for small projects. Not really any better or worse than anybody else's budget-brand urethane. Pay attention to your prep work, keep it tight on the mixing ratios, and follow the application data and you'll be fine.
