'53 merc, so do you think its worth $500... that picture of the hood corner is like the worse damage it has and that can be fixed easy.. and thats not all rust.. its the faded orange or red it was before they painted it black.. but it does have surface rust areas
What are the floors like ? What's under the hood ? When was it last on the road ? Why was it parked ?
depends!I'd say if it has a god title, the frame is solid, and the motor isn't seized solid,it probably is.i know it would be up here.looks like it's been sittin in grass for a long time,i would check the underneath of it out really well.also if that windshield is cracked that's probably another big expense, just something to think about!
the floors seem fine, but i had a builder tell me thats not a problem if they are. whats under the hood is the original flat head v8, he thinks it may just be a cracked head the guy that has it just has it sitting in his yard because a buddy of his bought some property and the car was on it and he didnt want it, so this guy got it.. so i really dont know the background
What is your budget to get it on the road ? And how much work can you do yourself ? Do you have space to work on it ? How much to insure this monster when it's done ? I'm guessing cracked blocks are more common than cracked heads, but it could also be just a blown head gasket.
It looks like the "red" might be the primer. Car was Prob black. It is worse than you think, they always are. Neat car, look at 3-5K to just get it runnig, bare bones style.
so better to just save my money and find one running? ive been looking for this type of body style for about 2yrs and theres nothing around here.. what i would find is either restored already or the others are beyond help
A builder will always tell you stuff is fixable, but if you are going to be learning on this car, I'd save my money and get something that is running, otherwise you'll get discouraged when all the people that are now telling you they will help disappear when you need them. Get a runner/driver, and start from there. Just some girl to girl advice.
It is worth what you are willing to pay for it and what the seller will take. Would I buy it for that price? Probably. It is quite a project and will require a commitment of cash and labor.without one, you need a lot of the other. Grunt work will be in taking it apart, cleaning and fixing what is fixable and sourcing parts. If you would build it as a custom, then sourcing parts takes on a different meaning.
[ QUOTE ] It is worth what you are willing to pay for it and what the seller will take. Would I buy it for that price? Probably. [/ QUOTE ] I'm with Jim. I'd probably buy as well. But if you want ot be driving it within the year and don't have aplace to work on it and money to throw at it you're better off with a runner. Hell you can buy a runner for $1500. It's a matter of doing the leg work and searching them out.
If the car has a frame, you have room to work on it, and are willing to weld and do some work yourself, GO FOR IT! 2 door merc for $500... you southerners are fuckin lucky! you need to Come to Canada and witness REAL ROTTEN CARS
I like that car , and I sure like the asking-price. I aint sure , but I belive a `52-`54 Ford windshield would fit , and they are easier to find .
If you don't jump on than I will just Pm me the guys number. So easy to throw a small block Chevy in it and keep on going. Worry about the small stuff later. Anyways rust is cool right now.
Would that have a 4" merc crank in the flatty to make a stroker motor? If so, the crank alone is worth the price of the car? Buy it- sell the flathead- put in a 350/350.
[ QUOTE ] What city are you in? [/ QUOTE ] Don't go steal that car goofball. LOL This little lady obviously needs a ride to get started on.
Buy it. Clean it up, get it running. And for God's sakes, stay far far away from a 350 Chevy. If you're gonna go smallblock, go 302 or 351 Ford, they're just as cheap and plentiful nowadays.
A rare model I think, with the chrome headlight rings. Buy it! You'll never lose a dime on it. pigpen "I'm gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road." (Rockabilly song)
The rally wheels don't go with the car, but other than that, like all of the Eye-atolla's wives said to him after they got done having wild monkey sex together, "Not too baaaaaad" pigpen

I gave 1500 for my car, but it's a Ford, not a Merc... You can find 52-54 Fords all over the place cheap. In the 5 months I've had my car, I've seen 3 others within 10 miles of my home (when I thought I was onto something special) Then again, you might specifically want a mercury...
