anybody have suggestions or ideas. i have a closed cab 1929 pickup and wanna cut the top off, making it a roadster. ive searched for ideas but havent seen any. pics or links would be great. 1929
x3 but if you do it shoot me a pm I might know a guy that could use the roof. Plus the fact that the roadster it a TOTALY different animal. I have no problem with a coupester or the like but it's a ton of work to make them look right and not just look like a coupe or closed truck with the roof cut off. The cowl band and doors are totaly different and specific to roadsters on the car and I'd bet the truck is the same way. When it comes down to it though it's your truck so be sure and do what is going to make YOU happy. Later, Rog
One more vote for selling it to get a roadster cab. Cutting the roof off of a closed car or truck does not make it a roadster.
Please dont! I know it isnt what you want to hear but I have a 30 Sport coupe that was turned into RPU of sorts and I look at it everyday and wonder what the hell they were thinking
x11. Look into changing the cab for a rpu. Cutting off the top will seriously reduce the value of the truck.
Look what Jim Simbley did. Can't you make it so the top is removable and have it both ways???? Just make it nice so when the top is in place you can't tell its removable.
I have to agree with everyone else, sell it and buy a RPU body. The cowl, windshield, doors, quarters and rear body panel are all different between the roadster PU and closed cab PU. If you are going to put that much work into something, build the whole thing from scratch.
X258, don't cut a PU cab to make a roadster. You'll end up with a F**ked up looking roadster and the world will be one pickup cab short. Get the real deal (Brookville very acceptible) and sell the PU cab to someone who will give it some love without destroying it. Before I forget, don't cut the top off the pu CAB. Frank
where'd all the restorers come from?! cut that ****er up! I'll make you quarter panels and a back panel in trade for yours!!!!
I have done it with both a Sport Coupe and a Pickup, but when I got them they had already been hacked up. The Sport Coupe came out killer, the work's still not done on the truck. It is A LOT of sheetmetal work and you're going to need a roadster dash rail if you want to use a roadster windshield. So I can tell you from experience that it is a hell of a lot less work to trade someone your closed cab for a RPU cab... Just my 2-cents.
If the closed cab is a nice body with doors, sell/trade for an RPU cab. On the other hand, if it's a twisted and dented hulk with serious rust-through, go ahead and cut the roof off. Just keep in mind it'll always look like an abomination of a closed cab that's had its roof cut off.
