Coincedentally I'm reading Blue Highways by William Least Heat Moon, the classic road trip bio. It looks more fun in a '32 roadster than it'd be in a '75 Econoline van though. Thanks for all the pictures and lighting a big fire under my inner gypsy.

Nice work. Captured a great deal of stuff that all of us should check out at least once.

Hey Megan, if you liked the castle you should Check out Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Even drive down for the Charlotte Good guys adn take a day trip to Asheville to see it. It very much like the one you seen in California. It was buildt by the Vanderbuilt's in mid to late 1800's. Beautiful to say the least.

We did the Hearst Castle, seals and stayed in Cambria a few years ago when we went to Paso. I'm right there with ya on the bus ride to the castle!! Craziness.

Of course, gotta wait to see pics until tonight, but I have a feeling we stayed at the same place in Cambria. They've got some funky night life in that town, too.

Megan, Great Report. What an adventure.!!!!

How about a little detail about how the car did? Fuel mileage? How do those Exceliors do? are they the economy ones or the big buck ones? How was the average speed, did ya notice a difference in fuel with differing speeds? Do you have a 4.11 rear and how warm did it get at highway speeds?
Looks like you were running low air in the fronts, What air pressure did you run?

And congratulations to the both of you on preparing the car for this trip.

  22. Well there you have it folks, Two Lane Blacktop, American Graffiti and now Megan's and Matt's Deuce Adventure!!! It smells of an "Oscar" when put to the silver screen!! Thanx for sharing your moments with us less fortunate!! Great story!! Reminds us of our trips from Alaska to America and back in the 60s and 70s, camping along the ALCAN and America's hiways with our 50 Merc or Sue's 40!! Dave and Sue

In one of your photos taken at Wendover Air Base, you show the roadster parked near a silver aircraft. It may interest you to know a little history of that plane. It was used in filming of the movie Con-Air and was actually gutted inside and sits on a bus chassis! The engines are fake and the props are turned by electric motors. Obviously, this fake plane was only used for ground shots. Some insurance problem caused the plane to be left at Wendover and it has sat there ever since. The manager of the airport is a friend of mine and gave us a tour through the interior. Thanks again for the coverage of your trip.

Cool adventure. Thanks for taking us along. I know you missed my window cleaner.

The I-80 truck stop has built a new truck museum next door. Some neat stuff (if you're into big old trucks), and admission is free!!
