Art & Inspiration Hot Rod LP Collecting

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Toby Denham, Apr 4, 2009.

  1. Who else around here collects vintage hot rod music LPs ("record albums" for the younger set)?? I started searchin' 'em out about 6 months ago. Some of the cover art makes good home decor! Toby

I have the top left and second row third from the right albums out in the garage somewhere. Haven't listened to them in 40 years. Must dig them out and have a listen.

I've been collecting for years- also 45's. See Rodder's Journal #20 for my collection. Rarest piece I have is Saturday Night Drag Race/Hot Rod Harry/ Hot Rod Cowboy in original packaging when mailed in December 1952 from Trend, Inc (Peterson Publishing). The records were advertised in the 7-52 Hot Rod Magazine. Neatest part of the story is all the songs were written by Tom Medley. A few years back, Jack Chisenhall (Vintage Air) had CD's made of the songs (they were available on 78 or 45 format). I have a few copies left if anyone is interested- send me a PM.

I kept that abum because of the late John Wenderski's dragster. Always thought it was gorgeous.

My fav is "Shut Down". Has many off beat songs and instrimentals by some artists that weren't well known and some established ones. Will try to post a pic later.

I got some at Hobby Lobby. But most big crafts stores carry them.

Here are mine..The Dick Dale has the name "Pete Millar" written on it..Considering Ive only seen 1 person spell their name that way,Id say its a pretty neat find.

Also, don't get me started on record sleeve finds..Think very naked,VERY GAY,redheaded bear type, circa '70's ,found in a ZZ Top album.
    Oh the humanity.

It's difficult to find any of the original surf up here (Dick Dale, Ventures, Rip Chords etc not the Beach Boys)

If anyone has any doubles that they would be interested in letting go, please let me know! Also, if anyone has an original "We Gotta Get Outa this Place" LP by the Animals, I'm also looking for that!

That Robert Williams comp. is very very cool.

  25. This one ain't no rock and roll and racing album, but the cover art is by Ed Roth.

  26. Oh man ... is that on a LP album cover? I've never seen that. That would definetly qualify for a wall hanger. Anything with Ed Roth's work, even if it were a Lawrence Welk album, would qualify.

Always liked Marty Robbins music, "Devil Woman" Album became a must buy for me for the jacket alone when it came out. Still ranks right there at the top of my collection along with the sounds of B'ville with MT's Challenger on the jacket.
