Now before anyone comes back with the tried and true statment "do a search" I already did and did not find what I was looking for. The reason I am asking is my Dad has a 40 ford pickup thats in good shape needs alot of work and he will sell it for a good price. It has a 58 Olds J2 motor I was going to pull out (and save for another project down the line) and possibly put in a straight 6 . I know, I know maybe I should leave well enough alone but I have always wanted a striaght 6 I like the sound and I think it would be prefect for that little truck. Soooo show me some exsamples of a custom 40 pick'em up so I can sell my wife on the idea :D.

Kind of OT, but my dad had a super straight Black 40 Ford pickup in the late fifties, early 60's...drag raced it around north Texas( Vernon, Wichita Falls, Quanah, Childress) and won 100's of class (G & H/Gas) trophys. Sold it in about 1963. And we have 1 lousy, out of focus picture of it. Supposedly, it went to Ardmore Ok, but we would love to know where and if it still is around..

George Poteet's gold 40 pickup is right up there on my list.
Here is the build thread on the pickup.

imho i do not think you would want to go with an inline six in a 40 pickup it is kinda like sleeping with your sister , you can do it but you dont want your buddies to know

If I had the J2 in there, I'd leave it! That is my dream engine for my truck.

However, if you wanted to stick the Olds in another rod, consider that you could get 40s with flathead sixes, but I don't know how streetable the engines are now. Might be cool to hop one up. It would also be cool to see a built OHV Ford six in a '40 truck; something a little different.

Here is an updated pic of my Custom '40. It will have running boards, bed and rear fenders. I may pancake the hood down the road.

Still have the one in my Avitar as well. Obviously more of a hot rod.
