Ok, I know themed builds are frowned on around here, but I'm building a 47 plymouth that will be Nautical/Pirate Themed I am really trying to find a hood ornament that is a mermaid like you would see on the front of a ship. Any help would be great.

    Thanks
    Adam

some of the early 40s desotos have a winged godess that would look appropriate on the front of a ship. seems like the plymouth ones with the ship would work?? or 53 packard clipper had the ship steering wheel.

A ship would be my second choice

  8. '40 Plymouth and possibly '41 too are a ship's sails design. '41 might even be a bolt-on. I have a '40 buried in my car show junk, but it needs a rechrome pretty bad.

I personally think the pirate craze is getting a little out of control. But I do have a 1941 desoto ornament not currently in use. PM me if you're interested. The picture below is not mine, but an example for reference.

That is my favorite hood ornament. I have rechromed several over the years. I still can't believe they came stock on a lowly little Nash; because it would be right at home on a top-shelf Caddy.

There are a lot of lady-style hood ornaments to choose from, prewar and postwar, from multiple makes.

We have a stockpile of hood ornament cores; if you find a specific ornament you like, we may have one in stock you could purchase.

******** you can't be serious are you? If so don't forget the parrot, the wooden peg leg & the eye patch you will also need a chest of gold. Could even put a fish tank in have & sharks swimming around in it. We call themed cars, donors for our next project, pull what we can s**** the rest. Rat rods fall into the same bracket.

and this is why so many people leave this site. Didn't your mother ever tell you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

I would like to find what I think is a 32 nash ornament.

I think this Mermaid is a radiator mascot from the late 20's, early 30's, made by a company called Franklin Die Cast out of Chicago. I recently stumbled across this very figure researching a mascot that I recently acquired made by the same company. The founder was H.H. Franklin, who coined the die cast name & later founded the Franklin Automobile Company. If you would like me to send you the link, drop me an E-mail.

No reason to justify it to anyone. It's your car and hard earned cash so do it the way you want to.If people like it great , if not who cares.

What do pirates and pimps have in common?

They both say "YO HO!" and walk with a limp!

Just so you know, you're not speaking for me.I've seen some awesome theme cars before. And I've seen come awesome cars that people have called a "rat rod" because it had primer instead of shiny paint.
