its a 1963 ford fairlane wagon with a '73 302 (out of what, i dont know). Since i first purchased the car over a year and a half ago there has been a residual coolant puddle on the top of the water pump (belt driven). Now my first thought was the coupler above the pump where water exits the block and enters the radiator. But then i noticed the upper right (right, as in your sitting behind the wheel right) bolt securing the water pump to the block was loose. Turns out it wasnt loose, but it had been broken off and was just sitting in the hole. so the bolt is missing the majority of its threading which im ***uming is still in the block. Heres the question: how do i remove this? i want to replace the hardware so it doesnt leak anymore! any and all help is greatly appreciated! diem
Need to remove the water pump and timing cover to gain access and I believe its one of the top bolts that goes into the lifter galley and if so will be an easy removal. In any event the front has to come off and go from there. Those are not grade 8 bolts and if it becomes necessary to drill and use an ez out it wont be that hard to do.
Not uncommon breakage. The bolt is surrounded by water and they have been known to do this. I usually coat the new bolts with teflon goo the entire length, it seems to helps not only seal the threads but keep the bolts from rusting as well.
EZ out, also known as that F*&^%ing piece of S)(*&^, because it broke when I didn't seat it far enough and torqued on it too hard too fast. They work, but you gotta take your time, 'cause when they snap, they can be harder than Chinese Trigonomentry to get out.
